{"id":40682,"date":"2013-01-11T09:00:41","date_gmt":"2013-01-11T14:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=40682"},"modified":"2013-01-11T09:00:55","modified_gmt":"2013-01-11T14:00:55","slug":"cazenovia-high-school-takes-part-in-mad-city-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=40682","title":{"rendered":"Cazenovia High School takes part in \u2018Mad City\u2019 Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Cazenovia, NY \u2013 Jan. 2013) FocalPoint Federal Credit Union and Cazenovia High School are teaming up to give Cazenovia teens a taste of the real world, at the second annual \u201cMad City\u201d simulated life event on Friday Jan. 11 at the high school.<\/p>\n<p>Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., students in teacher Christina New\u2019s business classes will gather in the gymnasium to be temporarily transported into their future lives in \u201cMad City,\u201d a simulated town with \u201cmerchants\u201d staffed by volunteers from real local businesses. Students will be given packets complete with their \u201clife\u201d details: occupation, salary, spouse and\/or children, student loan debt, credit card debt, medical insurance payments, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The challenge for students will be to visit merchants to select housing, transportation, food, household necessities, clothing, day care, and other wants and needs, while maintaining a budget and saving for the future.
