(Utica, NY \u2013 Feb. 2013) On Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. the Utica Public Library kicks off Black History Month with a screening of the \u201cgranddaddy of Blaxploitation classics,\u201d the 1971 crime drama \u201cShaft.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0The fast paced film made a star of Richard Roundtree and helped create the mold for the African American action\/crime film hero.<\/p>\n
Benefiting from a famous title song by Isaac Hayes, the story involves a private detective who is trying to locate the missing daughter of a gangster.\u00a0\u00a0The film is rated R and is free to the public.<\/p>\n
The library will also spotlight Toni Morrison in their annual lobby display and patrons may enter a drawing to win a free copy of her classic bestseller,\u00a0The Bluest Eye.<\/p>\n
