{"id":41751,"date":"2013-02-02T11:30:30","date_gmt":"2013-02-02T16:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=41751"},"modified":"2013-02-02T07:59:04","modified_gmt":"2013-02-02T12:59:04","slug":"get-fit-expo-targets-newcomers-to-healthier-living-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=41751","title":{"rendered":"Get Fit Expo Targets Newcomers to Healthier Living"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Utica, NY &#8211; Feb. 2013) The Utica Roadrunners and the Masonic Care Community of New York will sponsor a free <b><i>Get Fit<\/i> Expo <\/b>on Saturday, Feb. 9\u00a0from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Masonic Care Gym, 2150 Bleecker St., Utica.<\/p>\n<p>Presentations and organizations represented will focus on those interested in developing healthy lifestyles of exercise and nutrition, as well as those already practicing regimens that promote fitness and wellness.<\/p>\n<p>Organizer and Utica Roadrunners\u2019 board member Karl Jones hopes that those who have procrastinated getting in shape or are intimidated by exercise and more active lifestyles will attend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re especially targeting folks of all ages who\u2019ve put off becoming healthier, whatever their reasons,\u201d Jones said. \u201cWe want to provide the impetus to get them motivated and then sustain a smart program of healthy choices and habits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Featured will be demonstrations and instructions on racewalking, led by local experts Ed Lee and Bob Nicholson, sessions on \u201cGood Form Running\u201d led by The Sneaker Store, and video gait analysis by Cornell Dartfish. In addition to numerous local road races for runners, a series of subsequent recreational and competitive walking events are being considered through the Utica Roadrunners.<\/p>\n<p>The tentative demo and mini-seminar schedule includes:<\/p>\n<p>11:00-11:45 AM &#8212; RaceWalking Instruction with Ed Lee &amp; Bob Nicholson<\/p>\n<p>11:45-12:15 PM &#8212; \u201cGood Form Running\u201d by The Sneaker Store<\/p>\n<p>12:15-12:45 PM \u2013 Video Gait Analysis by Cornell Dartfish<\/p>\n<p>12:45-1:15 PM &#8212; Injury Prevention and Stretching with Sheila Burth<\/p>\n<p>1:15-1:45 PM &#8212; Physical Therapy presentation<\/p>\n<p>1:45-2:15 PM &#8212; Nutrition presentation<\/p>\n<p>2:15-2:45 PM &#8212; Injury Prevention with Mike Brych, ATC Endurance<\/p>\n<p>3:00-4:00 PM \u2013 Motivational Speaker<\/p>\n<p>Also present will be the Masonic Care Community services, Escape Away Massage, Body by Vi, ATC Endurance, the Vitamin Shoppe, Boilermaker Road Race, The Mud Run, Heart Run and Walk, Zumba Fitness, Utica Roadrunners, Roman Runners, Schuss Bike and Ski, information on injury prevention, physical therapy and nutrition, and the Oneida County Dairy princess and her court.
