Author-illustrator Jon Klassen was awarded the Caldecott Medal for his picture book This is Not My Hat; a quirky tale of an underwater theft and consequence.<\/p>\n<p>Katherine Applegate received the Newbery Medal for her novel The One and Only Ivan. Although fictional, Applegate\u2019s story is largely based on the real account of a silverback gorilla kept as an exhibit at a shopping mall. Both award-winners are available to borrow through the Mid York Library System.<\/p>\n<p>We can\u2019t wait for our own copies to arrive in Hamilton soon.<\/p>\n<p>We have several recent additions to our library collections. The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling has arrived in the adult fiction collection, along with The Prodigal Son by Coleen McCullough and the new Dick Francis\u2019 book (authored by his son) titled Bloodline.<\/p>\n<p>A new nonfiction book Understanding Alzheimer\u2019s: an introduction for patients and caregivers has also recently been added to the collection.<\/p>\n<p>A few of the new items to highlight from our young adult section include the graphic novel version of Madeleine L\u2019Engle\u2019s classic A Wrinkle in Time and the new novel Curse of the Thirteenth Fey: The True Tale of Sleeping Beauty by Jane Yolen.<\/p>\n<p>We are also happy to announce that in honor of retired library director, Barbara Coger, we have begun to give our children\u2019s collection a face-lift, purchasing newer editions of several classic children\u2019s books, for young readers to continue to enjoy for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Please stop by the library or browse online to continue to see what is new at the Hamilton Public Library.<\/p>\n<p>Join us Friday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. for a special reception honoring our exceptional artists. The Exceptional Art exhibit will be on display throughout February and March.
