With spring just around the corner but we\u2019ve still got some winter weather ahead of us. The library has fun talks and programming planned while we wait for spring to arrive.<\/p>\n<p>Erin Conley of Verona is our Artist of the month for March.\u00a0 Erin will display her photography, which has a focus on animals, places she has traveled and landscapes.\u00a0 Erin\u2019s work will be displayed individually and in groups and collages.<\/p>\n<p>The Art Reception for Erin Conley\u2019s photography show will be held on Tuesday March 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lawson Community Room.\u00a0 There is no cost to attend the opening but Erin requests that attendees bring donations for Wanderer\u2019s Rest.\u00a0 Donations could include pet food, pet snacks and supplies.\u00a0\u00a0 Erin volunteers her time at Wanderer\u2019s Rest Humane Society and has a great love for pets.<\/p>\n<p>The March Canalside Talk sponsored by The Canal Town Museum and the Canastota Public Library will be \u201cFrom Rosie the Riveter to Harriet the Happy Homemaker:\u00a0 Women on Screen During and After World War II\u201d.\u00a0 The presentation will be held on Thursday, March 7 and begins at 7 p.m. in the Children\u2019s area on the second floor of the library.\u00a0 Rob Edelman, a lecturer in Film History at SUNY Albany will be the presenter.\u00a0 This session of the Canalside Talks is sponsored by the New York Council for the Humanities.<\/p>\n<p>If you love poetry, why not attend our first Nite of Poetry on Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. An open microphone format will allow anyone who writes poetry to join in by reading and\/or performing their poetry.\u00a0 Master of Ceremonies Glenn Miley, a member of the Evening Writer\u2019s Group, will begin the festivities with a performance of some of his poetry.\u00a0 We are hopeful that this entertaining evening will become a regular event at the library.\u00a0 Refreshments will be available.<\/p>\n<p>Our Fairy Tea was rescheduled to March due to a threat of bad weather.\u00a0 So, Author Nariman Jiries will read her book, \u201cGrace-a-Lena Learns the Meaning of Self-Esteem\u201d at a Fairy Tea on Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m.\u00a0 The tea is open to Mothers, Daughters, Grandmothers and Aunts who would like to attend.\u00a0 The program is geared for girls up to age 10.\u00a0 Festivities will include tea and lemonade, cookies, a craft and a reading of \u201cGrace-a-Lena.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Please contact the library to reserve your space.\u00a0 Girls should feel free to come dressed as fairies or princesses or dressed in their best clothes. The book, \u201cGrace-a-Lena\u201d will be available for purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Sure and Begorrah!\u00a0 On Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m.\u201cAdventures in Ireland with Meg and Mike Kolodzie\u201d will take us to the fair cities of Dublin, Dunbrody, Dingle and various other sites in County Cork. Meg and Mike visited the \u201cgreen isle\u201d this past year and will share stories of the famine ships that left from Dunbrody to America, as well as some of the lovely souvenirs and memorabilia from their trip.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, March 27 join our Book Chat at 1pm in the Lawson Community Room.\u00a0 The group will discuss the book, \u201cThe Book Thief\u201d by Marcus Zusak.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the Library will be closed on Sunday, March 31 for the Easter holiday.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Elizabeth Totten provides public relations for the Canastota Public Library.
