<\/a>) For over 33 years this simple country man has secretly shared his love with other Norwegians besides his beautiful wife Lois.\u00a0\u00a0A Norwegian American of classic Nordic beauty with incomparable grace, intelligence and love for others.\u00a0\u00a0Shockingly these other two Norwegians live openly under the same roof with my adorable Lois, my wonderful wife, best friend and daily companion for nearly 47 years.<\/p>\nIn all honesty the other two Norwegians aren\u2019t much to look at.\u00a0\u00a0They both are Lilliputian in stature, with chubby mid-sections and shapeless chicken thin legs.\u00a0\u00a0But both have a certain beauty and charm that this simple country man has found irresistible!<\/p>\n
The three Norwegians have several common traits.\u00a0\u00a0They all are extremely hard working, reliable, very durable and have a sparkling, bouncy and cheerful persona. All, of course, share a common ancestry.\u00a0Their roots deep in the land and mountains of the Midnight Sun and majestically beautiful Fjords.<\/p>\n
An important digression.<\/p>\n
For over 33 years Lois and I have lived quite differently. We haven\u2019t purchased a single light bulb.\u00a0\u00a0Our modest home has no electrical wires outlets, switches, motor hums, buzzes, clicks or other noises all too familiar in our electrified, dependent world.\u00a0\u00a0One uninitiated visitor thought he had suddenly lost his hearing the quietude was so intense.<\/p>\n
Living simply and frugally is challenging.\u00a0\u00a0We don\u2019t depend on the \u201cgrid\u201d for anything.\u00a0\u00a0What others do with electricity we must do by other means.\u00a0\u00a0In doing so for over three decades we have by necessity developed some very unusual relationships\u2014that would probably strike \u201cnormal\u201d people as rather odd.\u00a0\u00a0To that observation we gladly plead \u201cguilty.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Perhaps in our self admitted queerness we have discovered in our simplicity daily joys and amenities that have enriched our simple lives in truly unbelievable and often unexpected ways.<\/p>\n
One highly, you might say bizarre, relationship is this simple country man\u2019s love of three Norwegians under the same A-frame roof.<\/p>\n
Recently in one of our infrequent slack moments I jotted down reasons for my intense admiration for my indispensable Norwegian connections.<\/p>\n
*Each provides amazing\u00a0heat\u00a0regardless of the season.\u00a0\u00a0(I had better quickly move on before too many inquisitive questions and comments are forthcoming).<\/p>\n
*Each can\u00a0bake.\u00a0\u00a0Lois is an unsurpassed baker and the other two Norwegians can bake the baker\u00a0(pies, fish, etc.).\u00a0\u00a0One of our Norwegians has a tiny\u00a0oven\u00a0that is multipurpose including a cooking chamber as well as a Sunday morning winter \u201chair dryer\u201d as we rush to get to \u201cthe church on time\u201d where Lois has been the organist for nearly 20 years.<\/p>\n
*Each of our two innate Norwegians have very versatile \u201ctops\u201d especially the smallest one.\u00a0On it water is heated, food cooked, canning done, yogurt made\u2014the list is endless.\u00a0\u00a0Lois can do amazing things including heating on the stove top \u201csad irons\u201d used to iron dresses etc. she has often made on the over century year old foot powered treadle sewing machine that we bought for $15 years ago.\u00a0\u00a0It works like a charm.<\/p>\n
*All three of my Norwegians radiate incredible\u00a0warmth.\u00a0\u00a0My beautiful Lois lights up with her amazing charm and radiance any place she goes or people she encounters.\u00a0\u00a0She loves her God, life, all people and kitty cats.\u00a0\u00a0Lois\u2019 warmth is contagious.<\/p>\n
*My Norwegians are all\u00a0beautiful\u00a0to look at\u2014to listen to, to smell.\u00a0\u00a0Each is musical in their unique \u201ccombustible\u201d way.\u00a0\u00a0This simple country man loves to sit and listen.\u00a0\u00a0Peace and quiet, warmed inside and out by unsurpassed ambience.<\/p>\n
My three Norwegians.\u00a0\u00a0Can you see why this simple country man has loved them so for over 33 years!\u00a0\u00a0All close \u201dfamily\u201d members\u2014absolutely indispensable.\u00a0\u00a0The diminutive Norwegian cookstove (Jotul 404) and the classic Jotul 118.\u00a0\u00a0Each built in Norway to last.<\/p>\n
And the \u201cQueen\u201d of them all, the love of my life for over 46 years.<\/p>\n
For this simple country man, who has been blessed beyond words his gratitude is as boundless as the heavenly stars to his simple country woman.<\/p>\n
