Lafayette and Holy Cross are also at 2-3 in the league, which sets up a big game next weekend on Senior Day at Tyler’s Field against the Leopards.

Amanda O’Sullivan led the Raiders on the offensive side of the field with two goals and she also had two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. The Raiders had five different goal scorers in the game. Kate Sheridan and Alison Flood joined O’Sullivan with multi-point games with a goal and an assist each.

Jennie Berglin played her best game of the season in the cage despite the 12 goals. She made 10 stops, including six in the first half with many to keep the Raiders in the game early on. Berglin also recorded a game-high five ground balls. The defense was stingy at times and forced Navy into 12 turnovers.

Navy (13-1, 4-0 PL) continues to get good performances from Jasmine DePompeo, Loren Generi and Aimee Gennaro. The three combined for nine goals and seven assists. DePompeo had seven points on two goals and five assists, while Generi had four goals and an assist. Annie Foky got the win in net with nine stops and left the game briefly with an apparent shoulder injury.

The Mids came out and got the early 2-0 lead in the first 3:28 of the game with DePompeo and Gennaro getting the two scores. O’Sullivan cut the lead to 2-1 with 22 minutes left in the first with a nice individual effort. Navy regained the two-goal lead again with Kathy Young scoring unassisted, but Lauren Gorajek put home a nice feed from Sheridan behind the net and it was 3-2 at the 17:26 mark.

Gennaro and Generi then tallied back-to-back goals to increase the advantage to 5-2. Brooke Flanagan answered with a wrap around score to get the Raiders back to within two, but Navy went on a short three-goal run and had its largest lead of the half at 8-3 with five minutes left.

Flood got one back for Colgate to make it 8-4, but the DePompeo closed out the first half scoring on a breakaway with three minutes left as the teams went to the break with Navy leading 9-4. Berglin kept the Raiders in the game with six saves in the opening half, including a pair of nice stops on Generi. Colgate did force turnovers with the Mids committing eight in the first 30 minutes.

The second half was mostly controlled by the Raiders, until the final minutes. Navy pushed the lead up to 10-4 with Gennaro scoring her third of the day with 24:41 remaining. Colgate then was able to get back-to-back goals from O’Sullivan and Sheridan and with 15:11 left in the game, the Raiders climbed back to within four at 10-6.

Colgate had its chances with the score at 10-6 with O’Sullivan firing a free-position chance wide and then Sheridan had a shot stopped by Foky. Berglin and her defense also kept the Mids off the board for close to 17 minutes and had three saves and caused a couple of turnovers.

The Mids, however, were able to gain possession late in the game and got goals from Generi and Young to seal up the win at 12-6.

Colgate forced Navy into four failed clears in the game and only had eight turnovers. The draw control and ground ball battles went to the Mids as Navy had a 14-6 advantage in draws and won the ground balls at 17-14.

The Raiders will look to regroup this week and will have a chance to claim one of the final two spots up for grabs in the Patriot League Tournament. The host has yet to be decided as Navy and American face each other next weekend for the right to host the tournament.

(Annapolis, Md. – April 13, 2013) The Colgate women lacrosse team got behind early against No. 12/13 Navy on Saturday and made a charge in the second half, but the Raiders came up short in a 12-6 loss.
