{"id":45345,"date":"2013-04-28T11:00:16","date_gmt":"2013-04-28T15:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=45345"},"modified":"2013-04-25T11:35:27","modified_gmt":"2013-04-25T15:35:27","slug":"trost-to-serve-as-fbla-district-7-vice-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=45345","title":{"rendered":"Trost to Serve as FBLA District 7 Vice President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Pictured from left are Canastota FBLA members Ariel Orcutt, Derick Trost, Hafeezah Lewis, Paul Gregoris, Vanessa Loomis and Advisor, Elizabeth Garofalo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Canastota High School<\/p>\n<p>(Canastota, NY- April 2013<a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/FBLA-Stota.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-45346\" alt=\"FBLA Stota\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/FBLA-Stota.jpg\" width=\"226\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/FBLA-Stota.jpg 226w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/FBLA-Stota-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><\/a>) From April 10 to 12, nearly 600 members of the Future Business Leaders of America gathered at Rochester\u2019s Riverside Convention Center for their annual State Leadership Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Canastota High School\u2019s chapter of FBLA sent six members to the conference.\u00a0 Throughout the three-day event, more than 20 students from New York State FBLA campaigned and gave speeches in an effort to seek positions available on the incoming state officer team.\u00a0\u00a0 Student candidates were required to give speeches, caucus, and answer any questions of the voting delegation.<\/p>\n<p>Canastota sophomore, Derick Trost, was elected to serve as next year\u2019s New York State Vice President for District 7.\u00a0 In this capacity, Derick will be responsible for coordinating all of the activities of the district, which includes Madison, Oneida, and Herkimer counties.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob Fleming, Canastota High School sophomore, finished his term as State District 7 Vice President and delivered his farewell speech<a name=\"OLE_LINK2\"><\/a><a name=\"OLE_LINK1\"><\/a> on Thursday evening.\u00a0 Fleming advanced to the national level in two events finishing third in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure and second in Introduction to Technology Concepts.\u00a0 Trost, who prepared the local chapter annual report, received first place recognition and will compete this summer in Aneheim as well.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Gregoris and Ariel Orcutt competed in Battle of the Chapters where they finished in second place.<\/p>\n<p>The Canastota Chapter nominated Mrs. Mary Reina from Frankfort for the prestigious honor of being named FBLA\u2019s Business Person of the Year.\u00a0 Reina was selected to receive this award and was honored at the Awards Ceremony on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Canastota chapter also received recognition for several chapter participation awards that were presented during the conference.\u00a0 The following were awarded:<\/p>\n<p>State Program of Work Awards<\/p>\n<p>Community Service Award \u2013 First Place<\/p>\n<p>Publicity Award \u2013 Second Place<\/p>\n<p>Membership Madness and Earlybird recognition<\/p>\n<p>At the conference, the Canastota Chapter was recognized as one of the top five outstanding chapters in the state \u2013 receiving fourth place recognition for their efforts during the year.\u00a0 New York State FBLA is composed of nearly 5000 members in 170 chapters.<\/p>\n<p>Canastota members are looking forward to attending the National Leadership Conference being held this June in Anaheim, California.\u00a0 Fundraising activities are being planned to raise funds for this trip.\u00a0 We hope you will support the Canastota Chapter at their upcoming chicken barbeque being held at the school on May 21.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pictured from left are Canastota FBLA members Ariel Orcutt, Derick Trost, Hafeezah Lewis, Paul Gregoris, Vanessa Loomis and Advisor, Elizabeth Garofalo.
