{"id":46003,"date":"2013-05-11T15:00:05","date_gmt":"2013-05-11T19:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=46003"},"modified":"2013-05-11T10:16:24","modified_gmt":"2013-05-11T14:16:24","slug":"food-allergy-research-education-brings-first-walk-for-food-allergy-to-utica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=46003","title":{"rendered":"Food Allergy Research &#038; Education Brings First WALK for FOOD ALLERGY to Utica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Utica, NY \u2013 May 2013) In celebration of National Food Allergy Awareness Week (May 12 \u201318), Food Allergy Research &amp; Education (FARE) is honored to announce the first-ever\u00a0WALK for FOOD ALLERGY in Utica,\u00a0to be held on Sept. 8 at SUNY IT.<\/p>\n<p>People with food allergies, their family and friends, and local community members are invited to participate in this family-friendly event, which will take place in more than 60 communities nationwide to fund food allergy education, advocacy, awareness, and research.\u00a0 The FARE WALK for FOOD ALLERGY unites thousands of Americans seeking a safe and inclusive world for people with food allergies. This potentially life-threatening disease affects up to 15 million Americans, including 1 in 13 children \u2013 roughly two in every classroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room every three minutes. Sadly, kids with food allergies know that one bite of the wrong food could have dangerous consequences, including anaphylaxis, a potentially deadly reaction.\u00a0 But it does not have to be that way.\u00a0 We are making great progress in developing life-saving treatments and programs,\u201d said John L. Lehr, chief executive officer of FARE.\u00a0 \u201cThanks to our generous sponsors and dedicated supporters, the day will come when we say FAREwell to food allergies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The local FARE committee was formed in February 2013 and is actively organizing and promoting the upcoming Sept. 8 walk.
