We hope that local patrons will stop in and see us during this busy month.\u00a0 Please consider one or several of our programs.<\/p>\n<p>The library\u2019s summer hours begin June 1. Hours are as follows: Monday through Thursday:\u00a0 9am \u2013 8pm; Fridays:\u00a0 9am \u2013 5pm; Saturdays 9am \u2013 1pm.\u00a0 The Canastota Public Library is closed on Sundays during the summer.<\/p>\n<p>June Art Display: The library is fortunate to be able to highlight three Canastota High School Senior Artists for their June shows.<\/p>\n<p>Brianne Buda, Jordan Sharpe and Audrey Soper will be showing their works until June 21.<\/p>\n<p>Buda uses photography as a way to express herself. Her goal is to use her camera to open an \u201cunexplored world, a place of self-expression, but a world of new stories, as well.\u201d\u00a0 Sharpe has been interested in art since sixth grade and hopes to become an art therapist.\u00a0 For her, \u201cliving as an artist isn\u2019t just a smart lifestyle,\u201d but a way to help people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of Soper\u2019s art is to express the beauty in simplistic, everyday moments. Her work will span from her junior high days to her senior portfolio, which recently earned her an Honorable Mention at Scholastic\u2019s Art and Writing Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The display cases on the main level of the library, near the Circulation Desk will have a collection of Terry Blowers on loan for the month of June.\u00a0 The collection will include antique eyeglasses, various types of scissors and early renditions of light bulbs.<\/p>\n<p>The Friends of the Canastota Public Library hold an ongoing book sale on the lower level of the library. The Friends mentioned that \u201cMysteries\u201d in hard cover are now on sale\u2026they are being sold for 50 cents each.<\/p>\n<p>Free donated magazines are also located in our lower level for those who are interested.<\/p>\n<p>Scrapbooking is a group that meets at the library on the second Monday evening of every month beginning at 5:30 p.m. Bring your projects to the library, including photographs and supplies and meet with other scrap bookers to learn new techniques.\u00a0 The group meets in the Lawson Community Room.<\/p>\n<p>Bone Builders, a program of Cornell Coop Extension, meets each Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Lawson Community Room.\u00a0 If you are interested in joining, come on Tuesday afternoon and speak to coordinator, Christine Crandall.<\/p>\n<p>Party Bridge is looking for experienced Bridge Players to join in every Thursday afternoon at the library beginning at 1 p.m. Party Bridge is an open group and welcomes players to attend whenever they are available. The group meets all year long.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday night and Friday morning knitting groups welcome new and experienced knitters to join in for fun and fellowship.\u00a0 The Thursday Night Knitters meet at 6 p.m. and the Friday Morning Knitters meet at 10 a.m. in the Lawson Community Room.\u00a0 All are welcomed, knitters or \u201cknot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For June, the Canastota Book Chat group will be discussing \u201cCutting for Stone\u201d by Abraham Verghese.\u00a0 The book will be available at the end of the month of May (at the library) for those who would like to join in on the discussion.\u00a0 The Book Chat meets on Wednesday, June 26 in the Lawson Community Room at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Afternoon Writer\u2019s Group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 3 until 5 p.m.\u00a0 The Evening Writer\u2019s Group meets the second and fourth Monday evenings of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m.\u00a0 The groups assist writers by offering constructive criticism and praise as each member shares their work. New members welcomed.<\/p>\n<p>The week of June 24, the Canastota Public Library will begin accepting self sign-ups for all summer programs including grades K \u2013 6 and the teen programs.\u00a0 The sign-ups will take place on the second floor of the library.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. Nancy Sander will present, \u201cAladdin,\u201d a family puppet show to kick off our Summer Reading Program.\u00a0 \u201cAladdin\u201d will be held in the Children\u2019s Area of the Library on the second floor.<\/p>\n<p>Sander was the principal puppeteer consultant, puppet builder, puppet creator and puppet script writer for the Emmy Award winning children\u2019s televisions show, \u201cHickory Hideout,\u201d produced by WKYC-TV and WNBC-TV.\u00a0 She received an Emmy Award for her contribution to children\u2019s television.\u00a0 The show also won the Parent\u2019s Choice Award, the National Education Association Award and received a silver medal in the International Film and TV Awards of New York.<\/p>\n<p>The library is located at 102 W.
