{"id":47411,"date":"2013-06-17T12:30:38","date_gmt":"2013-06-17T16:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=47411"},"modified":"2013-06-16T13:24:31","modified_gmt":"2013-06-16T17:24:31","slug":"trip-to-cornell-lab-offered-to-camden-mcconnellsville-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=47411","title":{"rendered":"Trip to Cornell Lab offered to Camden, McConnellsville Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Oneida County, NY \u2013 June 13, 2013) Thanks to donations from International Wire and Kirch Hardware, Cornell Cooperative Extension Oneida County 4-H announces a free bus trip for third grade students in Camden and McConnellsville Elementary School to Cornell Lab of Entomology in October 2013.<\/p>\n<p>For the past several years the Cornell Lab of Entomology has opened its doors to the public for a fun educational family event called Insectapalooza.\u00a0 College students from the Entomology Department organize the day\u2019s event with true hands-on insect opportunities including cockroach races, an indoor butterfly house and live exhibits of spiders, scorpions and tarantulas. The public is invited into the vaults to view the insect collection, encouraged to speak directly with students about the research they are working on, and for the truly adventurous, there is an opportunity to sample some cricket cookies.<\/p>\n<p>The open house of an ivy league, world class insect collection is an experience that few adults and children should miss.<\/p>\n<p>The field trip will be a true learning experience for the youth.\u00a0 The opportunity was introduced during a free, 45 minute \u201cInsect Class\u201d conducted by an Oneida County 4-H Staff Member.\u00a0 Students wishing to apply for the trip must demonstrate a desire to learn and understand about insects.<\/p>\n<p>Your child must currently be 3<sup>rd<\/sup> grade students in Camden or McConnellsville Elementary and must agree to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Build a Bug from objects found around the home.
