{"id":47975,"date":"2013-07-06T10:00:46","date_gmt":"2013-07-06T14:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=47975"},"modified":"2013-07-05T14:15:03","modified_gmt":"2013-07-05T18:15:03","slug":"town-needs-law-that-protects-all-madison-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=47975","title":{"rendered":"Town Needs Law that Protects all Madison Residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To the Editor:<\/p>\n<p>(Town of Madison, NY \u2013 July 2013) During what appeared to be a carefully scripted &#8220;workshop&#8221; on Wednesday June 26, Madison Town Supervisor [Ron] Bono unveiled a new Districting\u00a0concept for the siting of Industrial Wind Turbines throughout the Town of Madison, based upon the Town of Fenner Zoning Law.\u00a0 In doing so, the Town Board\u00a0admitted it ignored the public comments received at the Public Hearing on the proposed Law and the 400+ signature petition signed by residents of the\u00a0Town asking for necessary protective regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The Board continued to refuse public comment or request input by the Wind Advisory Committee, which\u00a0after many months of diligent effort considering all issues raised by residents of the Town, submitted a very comprehensive proposed Wind Law to\u00a0the Town Planning Board.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/letterstotheeditor.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-764\" alt=\"letterstotheeditor\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/letterstotheeditor.jpg?resize=226%2C170\" width=\"226\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Requirements in the Town will be less protective than the proposed Wind Law submitted to the Board by the Planning\u00a0Board.\u00a0 The proposed Wind Districts will have even less stringent requirements, hoping to satisfy the developer.<\/p>\n<p>The stated and obvious goal of the workshop was to promulgate a Wind Law acceptable to developers and especially EDP, which had submitted a private\u00a0letter to Supervisor Bono setting forth its requirements.\u00a0 The stated goal of the workshop was to fashion a law that would promote further development of\u00a0Industrial Wind Facilities in the Town of Madison.<\/p>\n<p>Comments by the Board were, &#8220;Will the regulations be acceptable to the developer?&#8221; and &#8220;We need to\u00a0show the developer we are\u00a0trying to meet their requests.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We need a law that\u00a0protects the residents of Madison not that satisfies the requests of\u00a0developers at residents&#8217; expense.<\/p>\n<p>Supervisor Bono and the Town Council that follows his lead will not consider resident input.\u00a0 Perhaps a change in leadership is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Very truly yours,<\/p>\n<p><strong>David E.
