(Wampsville, NY – July 6, 2013) The Madison County Health Department is holding a free walk-in Tetanus vaccination clinic for flood victims, first responders, and flood recovery workers on Tuesday, July 9 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the DeRuyter Town Hall located at the corner of Utica Street (NYS Route 13) and Seminary Street.

If you are involved in clean up and recovery activities, there is a high risk for injury and exposure to the Tetanus bacteria. If you have not had a Tetanus vaccine in the last 5 years, you should get a Tetanus shot.

Tetanus can be a serious infection that causes painful muscle tightening and stiffness, usually all over the body. It enters the body through cuts, scratches, or wounds in the skin. Tetanus can be fatal, killing about 1 out of 5 people who are infected. It can be prevented by getting vaccinated.

Any cuts or wounds you may get, especially during this difficult clean up time, can be very serious. Don’t put off seeking medical attention if you receive a serious cut or deep wound.

For more information about the clinic or tetanus shots, please call the Madison County Health Department at 366-2361 or visit www.madisoncounty.ny.gov.
