Valesky (D-Oneida), that designates Route 365A in the City of Oneida as the \u201cLCpl. Jeremy Lasher Memorial Highway.\u201d Lasher was killed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/valesky.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-40074\" alt=\"valesky\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/valesky-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>July 23, 2009 in Afghanistan when the vehicle he was driving hit an\u00a0improvised explosive device. He was 27.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLance Corporal Jeremy Lasher gave his life in service to his country,\u201d<br \/>\nValesky said. \u201cBy designating Route 365A in the City of Oneida as the<br \/>\n\u2018LCpl. Jeremy Lasher Memorial Highway,\u2019 his sacrifice will be honored and<br \/>\nremembered in a public way in his hometown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, no bridge, building, highway or memorial can bring Jeremy<br \/>\nback to his family. He&#8217;s a hero to us because he volunteered to fight for<br \/>\nand defend the country he loved,\u201d Jennifer Lasher, speaking for the family,<br \/>\nsaid. \u201cHopefully, with the naming of Route 365A after Jeremy, it will cause<br \/>\nothers to reflect, even if just for a moment, and remember the sacrifices<br \/>\nour men and women of the Armed Services make for us.<\/p>\n<p>Lasher was born in Hamilton, N.Y. on November 12, 1981. He was active in<br \/>\nsports such as Pop Warner Football and Little League. He graduated from<br \/>\nOneida High School in 2000 and married Andrea Wolcik in 2006. He was a<br \/>\nmember of the Verona Fire Department and enjoyed music, golfing,<br \/>\nsnowmobiling, landscaping and spending time with his family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>He enlisted in the Marine Corps on October 10, 2006 and was serving his<br \/>\nsecond tour of duty when he was killed. He is survived by his wife and<br \/>\ntheir son, Caden; his mother and stepfather, Vicki and Scott Arnold; his<br \/>\nsister Jennifer Lasher; brothers Daniel and Ryan, who is also a Marine; and<br \/>\nstepbrothers Collin and Conner Lasher. The song \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believing,\u201d by<br \/>\nJourney, held a special meaning as a motto for Lasher and his family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJeremy will always be a hero to his family and friends. Our hope is that<br \/>\nothers will remember him and what he stood for, as well as so many others<br \/>\nthat have made the ultimate sacrifice,\u201d Jennifer Lasher said.\u201d Jeremy\u2019s<br \/>\nfamily is most grateful to Senator Valesky and everyone in his office that<br \/>\nhas helped to make this possible. It\u2019s been a long time coming, but knowing<br \/>\nhis name will forever be a reminder to anyone passing through his hometown<br \/>\nmakes the journey worth it.
