(Albany, NY \u2013 \u00a0July 8, 2013) Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation, sponsored by\u00a0Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida), that designates Route 365A in the City of Oneida as the \u201cLCpl. Jeremy Lasher Memorial Highway.\u201d Lasher was killed\u00a0\"valesky\"<\/a>July 23, 2009 in Afghanistan when the vehicle he was driving hit an\u00a0improvised explosive device. He was 27.<\/p>\n

\u201cLance Corporal Jeremy Lasher gave his life in service to his country,\u201d
\nValesky said. \u201cBy designating Route 365A in the City of Oneida as the
\n\u2018LCpl. Jeremy Lasher Memorial Highway,\u2019 his sacrifice will be honored and
\nremembered in a public way in his hometown.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, no bridge, building, highway or memorial can bring Jeremy
\nback to his family. He’s a hero to us because he volunteered to fight for
\nand defend the country he loved,\u201d Jennifer Lasher, speaking for the family,
\nsaid. \u201cHopefully, with the naming of Route 365A after Jeremy, it will cause
\nothers to reflect, even if just for a moment, and remember the sacrifices
\nour men and women of the Armed Services make for us.<\/p>\n

Lasher was born in Hamilton, N.Y. on November 12, 1981. He was active in
\nsports such as Pop Warner Football and Little League. He graduated from
\nOneida High School in 2000 and married Andrea Wolcik in 2006. He was a
\nmember of the Verona Fire Department and enjoyed music, golfing,
\nsnowmobiling, landscaping and spending time with his family and friends.<\/p>\n

He enlisted in the Marine Corps on October 10, 2006 and was serving his
\nsecond tour of duty when he was killed. He is survived by his wife and
\ntheir son, Caden; his mother and stepfather, Vicki and Scott Arnold; his
\nsister Jennifer Lasher; brothers Daniel and Ryan, who is also a Marine; and
\nstepbrothers Collin and Conner Lasher. The song \u201cDon\u2019t Stop Believing,\u201d by
\nJourney, held a special meaning as a motto for Lasher and his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeremy will always be a hero to his family and friends. Our hope is that
\nothers will remember him and what he stood for, as well as so many others
\nthat have made the ultimate sacrifice,\u201d Jennifer Lasher said.\u201d Jeremy\u2019s
\nfamily is most grateful to Senator Valesky and everyone in his office that
\nhas helped to make this possible. It\u2019s been a long time coming, but knowing
\nhis name will forever be a reminder to anyone passing through his hometown
\nmakes the journey worth it. Semper Fi and \u2018Don’t Stop Believing.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

State Route 365A from its intersection with State Route 5 to its
\nintersection with State Route 365 in the City of Oneida will be designated
\nthe \u201cLCpl. Jeremy Lasher Memorial Highway.\u201d<\/p>\n
