Each year, the pageant nationally awards more than $1.5 million in cash, scholarships and other prizes.<\/p>\n<p>Activities and competitions are age-appropriate; girls under 12 years old are not allowed to wear makeup, and there is no swimsuit competition. Emphasis is on the importance of developing self-confidence, learning good sportsmanship and setting and achieving personal goals.
