To the Editor:<\/p>\n

\"letterstotheeditor\"<\/a>(Madison, NY \u2013 July 2013) Newsflash \u2013 the State DOT commissioner has tabled a vote on the I81 redo through Syracuse so that she can be sure people are better informed about the possibilities and to gather more public opinion.<\/p>\n

What a concept.\u00a0\u00a0Many residents in the town of Madison fervently wish our Town Board would take the same stand and mean to follow it.\u00a0\u00a0Instead, they have disregarded comments at a public hearing and ignored a petition with over 400 signatures all indicating that people want stricter requirements for siting windfarm projects.\u00a0\u00a0Further, they destroyed months of research and work on those requirements by redoing the proposed windfarm law so that all of the developer\u2019s desires are represented and few of their constituents\u2019 wishes served.<\/p>\n

Because we want to preserve our property value and because we have repeatedly urged the town to develop land use and zoning regulations that would avoid future months-long divisive battles and give Madison a path to future development that would bring reliable and ongoing revenue, we are accused of\u00a0\u00a0whining and being self-serving.\u00a0\u00a0This entire debacle has given Madison residents whiplash as time after time planning board proposals and those of residents are first encouraged and then squashed.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it\u2019s time to elect town officials that represent the 21st\u00a0century, rational land use and most important, the reasonable views of a majority of their constituents.<\/p>\n
