{"id":49888,"date":"2013-09-17T10:30:50","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T14:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=49888"},"modified":"2013-09-14T11:39:35","modified_gmt":"2013-09-14T15:39:35","slug":"shenandoahs-to-perform-concert-at-the-palace-theater","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=49888","title":{"rendered":"Shenandoah\u2019s to Perform Concert at The Palace Theater"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/shenandoah_press.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-49889\" alt=\"shenandoah_press\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/shenandoah_press.jpg\" width=\"226\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/shenandoah_press.jpg 226w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/shenandoah_press-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/shenandoah_press-100x150.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><\/a>Pictured is Joanne Shenandoah<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cJoanne Shenandoah is one of the finest tributes to Native American Music and Culture.\u201d<\/em> Neil Young<\/p>\n<p>(Hamilton, NY \u2013 Sept. 2013) A Concert of Peace, Hope, and Dreams\u00a0showcases Joanne Shenandoah with the smooth, rich harmonies of Leah and Diane Shenandoah (Oneida Iroquois from Central New York)\u00a0Saturday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m.\u00a0at The Palace Theater.<\/p>\n<p>Performing more than 20 years, these three women have raised cultural awareness and inspired hope and peace throughout the world with their music.<\/p>\n<p>Joanne\u00a0Shenandoah has one of the most unique voices in American music; a warm instrument that permeates your heart with its gentle soulful tone.\u00a0She is one of America\u2019s most celebrated and critically acclaimed musicians, and a Grammy Award winner, with over 40 music awards (13 Native American Music awards).<\/p>\n<p>Joanne sings lead vocals, and plays guitar, flute and rattles; Leah sings back up and lead vocals and plays rattles; and Diane sings back up and plays rattles and the drum.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the songs during the concert will be performed in her traditional Native tongue and explained thoroughly so the audience is lifted to a place of celebration.\u00a0 Most songs combine stories, cultural beliefs and environmental messages of the Iroquois.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never actually prepare a song list for a concert; as I really like to sing as the spirit moves me,\u201d said Joanne Shenandoah.<\/p>\n<p>Some of her songs include\u00a0Mother Earth Speaks, Women\u2019s Traditional Song, Hiawatha, Prophecy Song, Dancing on Mother Earth, She Sings &#8211; Tekaliwah Kwah, Rabbit Dance, I Feel Your Love, Watch Me Through the Night,\u00a0and\u00a0Eagle Cries.<\/p>\n<p>Many of Joanne\u2019s original traditional and contemporary compositions have been heard on popular television shows and documentaries seen on HBO, Discovery, CBS and PBS.<\/p>\n<p>Joanne and Leah recorded\u00a0Path to Zero\u00a0with Jim Morrison, which included Sting\/Bono, Sinead O\u2019Conner, and Robert Downey Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Joanne recently performed for His Holiness the Dali Lama, and at St. Peter\u2019s at the Vatican in Italy where she performed an original composition for the celebration for the canonization of the first Native American Saint Kateri Tekakwitha.<\/p>\n<p>She has performed at prestigious events at The White House, Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Crystal Bridges Museum, The NMAI-Smithsonian, The Ordway Theater, Hummingbird Centre, Toronto Skydome, The Parliament of the World\u2019s Religions, (Africa, Spain and Australia) and Woodstock \u201894.<\/p>\n<p>Before attending the concert, take a moment on\u00a0Sept. 28, 3-7:30pm\u00a0to visit the art exhibit\u00a0Leah Shenandoah:\u00a0O\u2019whahsa\u2019\u00a0\u2013 Protection, Comfort, Healing\u00a0at the Longyear Museum,\u00a0Alumni Hall, second floor, Colgate University.<\/p>\n<p>Additional viewing times are now until to\u00a0Nov. 1, Monday through Friday from\u00a09:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Leah, an emerging artist of the Oneida Nation (Wolf Clan), explores the concept of the hood (O\u2019whahsa\u2019\u00a0in Oneida language) as a metaphor for protection, comfort, and healing.
