(Verona, NY \u2013 Nov. 2013) Fritz’s Polka Band (FPB)\u00a0from\u00a0Verona released their 18th\u00a0recording,\u00a0\u201cThe WSKG Sessions\u201d\u00a0Nov. 1. This date was chosen as it marks the fourth anniversary of the last time founding FPB member, the late Fred Scherz Sr. played a tune on accordion with Fritz.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe WSKG Sessions\u201d (recorded on Feb. 4, 2012 before FPB guitarist, Tom Campbell retired) is a double live CD and will be FPB\u2019s first recording since Fred passed away on Nov. 14, 2009, and will be available at FPB gigs as well as on CD Baby, iTunes, and other on-line outlets as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last few years, people have been asking when FPB was going to release a new CD,\u201d said Fritz Scherz, band leader of\u00a0Fritz’s Polka Band.\u00a0 \u201cThe thing is, I did not know when or even if we were going to. After my Dad passed away, it created a huge void in the band, both from a musical and personal perspective and\u00a0I thought about putting FPB to rest. But, I knew that\u2019s not what my Dad wanted. In fact, as he was dying from cancer, he told me to keep the band going.\u00a0 I\u2019ll admit, at first it wasn\u2019t easy. It\u2019s still tough playing without him on the stage next to me, as he left a huge void. You see, a guy like him can\u2019t be replaced.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, this recording has some extra special meaning to me, as it\u2019s my band\u2019s effort at carrying on my Dad\u2019s legacy,\u201d Scherz said. \u201cWe were sure to include some tunes of his on it. As it turns out, many of my Dad\u2019s friends were in the studio audience for this recording, as we took a busload of friends with us to the WSKG TV studio for this recording.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fritz’s Polka Band has been performing for 35 years, and made history in 1999, when they became the first polka band to perform at a Woodstock Festival in Rome, NY.\u00a0 FPB has made 18 recordings and even appears\u00a0on\u00a0“The Manchurian Candidate”\u00a0DVD, which was released in 2004.<\/p>\n

FPB won a Just Plain Folks Music Award for Bialczak\u2019s Polka\u00a0in 2008.<\/p>\n

FPB won an Upper State Independent (USI) Award in Syracuse, NY, in 2008 and 2009.\u00a0 In June 2009, FPB won their first ever Syracuse Area Music Award (SAMMY) for their\u00a0\u201cReflections\u201d\u00a0recording.<\/p>\n

In 2010, FPB was inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

In 2011, FPB had two songs (\u2018Grandparent\u2019s Polka\u2019 and \u2018Here Is Fritz\u2019s Polka Band\u2019) included in two different episodes of the hit cable TV show, \u2018Breaking Bad.\u2019<\/p>\n

FPB was also nominated last year for two USI Awards.<\/p>\n
