(Norwich, NY \u2013 Nov. 2013) The public is invited to the next free film of the monthly 2013-2014 \u201cSecond\u00a0Tuesday\u00a0Film Series\u201d at\u00a07 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 in the Founders Room at the United Church of Christ, 11 West Main, Norwich.<\/p>\n
This\u00a0educational documentary, titled \u201cBringing It Home\u201d explores industrial hemp as an alternative money making crop for struggling farmers and asks the question, but why can\u2019t it be grown here?<\/p>\n
This non-psychoactive plant of the cannabis family is extremely versatile and used world-wide to produce thousands of items such as textiles, carbon negative construction materials, bio-plastics, auto parts, foods and body care products.<\/p>\n
The film animates hemp\u2019s history and the latest efforts by advocates to legalize it in the United States.\u00a0 The passage of state ballot initiatives in Washington and Colorado last year enlivened the national debate over the legality of marijuana, but hemp is far less controversial.\u00a0 This low environmental impact plant is easy to grow and uses no pesticides;\u00a0it provides solutions for sustainable agriculture and economic growth with good jobs.<\/p>\n
The film educates about what needs to be done to bring industrial hemp home.<\/p>\n
This film series, now in its sixth year, screens documentaries about current environmental, social justice and peace issues as a public service. It is co-sponsored by Chenango County Peace Action and Chenango Community Action for Renewable Energy (C-CARE).<\/p>\n
The program also offers attendees a light supper at\u00a06:30 p.m.\u00a0before the show to encourage networking and discussion.<\/p>\n
Please note parking is available on the street, in the Hayes Street and County Office Building Parking lots, but not in the church\u2019s lot behind it.<\/p>\n
