Schad, Athletics Marketing Specialist<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/McIntyre2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-50747\" alt=\"McIntyre2\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/McIntyre2.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/McIntyre2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/McIntyre2-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>(Cazenovia, NY \u2013 Nov. 12, 2013) Although her time on campus can be measured in only a few short months, Shelby McIntyre\u2019s impact on athletics will long surpass her years at Cazenovia College.\u00a0 Shattering the women\u2019s cross country college record back in early October of this year, McIntyre was recently named to the NEAC All-Conference Second Team for several outstanding performances this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShelby embodies the excitement and energy surrounding this year\u2019s freshman class,\u201d said Cazenovia College Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Michael Brooks. \u201cShe is a true competitor in every sense of the word and her determined will to succeed makes me proud to call her a Cazenovia College Wildcat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A native of Ilion, McIntyre\u2019s decision to attend Cazenovia College was due in large part to the school\u2019s Interior Design program, but Shelby saw that Cazenovia had even more to offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved the idea of a small campus, close to home, with the opportunity to compete in college athletics,\u201d said McIntyre.\u00a0 Currently a freshman in the Interior Design program, Shelby enjoys spending time with her teammates and lists both drawing and painting as her greatest passions outside of cross country.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Shelby.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-51596\" alt=\"Shelby\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Shelby-200x300.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Shelby-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Shelby-100x150.jpg 100w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Shelby.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>McIntyre\u2019s decorated cross country career began long before enrolling at Cazenovia College.\u00a0 She was recognized as a Center State Conference Cross Country All-Star in 2010, 2011 and 2012 while attending Ilion High School.\u00a0 She currently holds the women\u2019s cross country 5k record at Ilion with a time of\u00a021:33, and was honored in 2013 with the Cross Country Achievement Award.\u00a0 McIntyre remained active during the off season, running both indoor and outdoor track.\u00a0 During her senior year of high school, she earned a spot in the state qualifier meet for the 3,000-meter event.<\/p>\n<p>McIntyre\u2019s record-breaking performance as a member of the Cazenovia College Wildcats came on\u00a0October 12, at the Hamilton College Invitational.\u00a0 Finishing the 5k event in a time of nineteen minutes and six seconds, Shelby shattered the previous record of\u00a020:01, which had stood for several years.\u00a0 She recently led the Wildcats to a third-place finish at this year\u2019s NEAC Championships on Nov. 2, finishing in ninth place overall with a time of\u00a021:58.<\/p>\n<p>Head Coach Bill Houser said of Shelby, \u201cBased on her times, she is the most talented runner in the history of Cazenovia College Women&#8217;s Cross Country. She and her teammates are some of the most unselfish athletes with whom I have ever had the pleasure of coaching.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shelby attributes her success on the course, in the classroom and in life to her parents. \u201cMy parents have been, and will always be, my role models,\u201d said McIntyre. She also looks to head coach Bill Houser for inspiration claiming, \u201cHe is both an inspiring and motivating coach day in and day out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shelby has achieved more than most freshman could ever hope for in their first few months on campus, but continues to seek even more success in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is my dream to be a residential interior designer, and I know Cazenovia College will provide me with the tools and life lessons necessary to fulfill that dream,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Submitted by\u00a0Cory T.
