{"id":51937,"date":"2013-11-26T09:30:41","date_gmt":"2013-11-26T14:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=51937"},"modified":"2013-11-25T17:28:10","modified_gmt":"2013-11-25T22:28:10","slug":"hanna-end-costly-wind-tax-credit-boondoggle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=51937","title":{"rendered":"Hanna: End Costly Wind Tax Credit Boondoggle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Hanna-for-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-41286\" alt=\"Hanna for web\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Hanna-for-web-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Bipartisan coalition urges expiration of taxpayer subsidies for wind energy in 2013<\/p>\n<p>(Washington DC &#8211; Nov. 25, 2013) U.S. Representative Richard\u00a0Hanna\u00a0joined a bipartisan group of 52 House members in calling on Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp to allow the wind production tax credit (PTC) to expire at the end of 2013 as scheduled under current law.<\/p>\n<p>Since its establishment in 1992, the tax subsidy for wind energy production has grown in both eligibility and cost.\u00a0Today, the PTC subsidizes wind energy production at a rate of 2.3 cents per kilowatt.\u00a0According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, a one-year extension of the tax credit would cost $6 billion and a five-year extension would cost more than $18 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Wind energy is already a mature technology, with 60,000 megawatts of production in place across the United States.\u00a0The Department of Energy reported that wind electricity was the leading source of new power in 2012, overtaking natural-gas electricity generation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpstate New Yorkers already pay some of the highest tax rates in the nation,\u201d\u00a0Rep.
