<\/a>By Elizabeth Totten, public relations<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n(Canastota, NY \u2013 Nov. 2013) December is a busy month everywhere\u2026yes, we are even busy at the Canastota Public Library.\u00a0 There is still time to join in on the fun.<\/p>\n
Our very own Mindy Snyder will display her watercolor paintings in the Lawson Community Room during the entire month of December.\u00a0 Stop in to see her talents.\u00a0 An artist\u2019s reception will be held for Mindy on Monday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.at the library.\u00a0 The reception is open to the public.\u00a0 Light refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n
In December, The Canastota Public Library will be celebrating with Food For Fines.\u00a0 In this two month period, we will be accepting non-perishable food items in place of CPL fines.\u00a0 We ask that the food donation be equal to the fine charged.<\/p>\n
For instance, if a patron owes $2 for a late DVD, a box of rice might be an acceptable donation.\u00a0 If several books are overdue, an acceptable donation might be a can of vegetables or soup.\u00a0 We can only accept the donations for fees due to the Canastota Public Library.\u00a0 All items will be donated to the Opportunity Shop to help keep their shelves full during the holiday season.<\/p>\n
Try your hand at decorating a\u00a0Gingerbread House\u00a0on\u00a0Tuesday, Dec 3 at 6 p.m.\u00a0with Natalie Gustafson. \u00a0Mrs. Gustafson has made all the gingerbread for this event.\u00a0 You just have to put it together and decorate it for the family. Only one house per family and you must be registered for this program to participate.\u00a0 Call us at 697-7030 to register.<\/p>\n
The Book Chat group meets on\u00a0Wednesday Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. \u00a0The book for discussion is Sarah\u2019s Key\u00a0by Tatiana de Rosnay. \u00a0The Book Chat meets in the Lawson Community Room at the library.\u00a0 All are welcome to come to the discussion.<\/p>\n
Do you have an iPad that you haven\u2019t used a lot? \u00a0Come to the library and learn the basics of using your iPad on\u00a0Wednesday, Dec.\u00a04 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.\u00a0at our\u00a0iPad Workshop. \u00a0You must bring your own iPad to this class. \u00a0Please RSVP to 697-7030 for the workshop.<\/p>\n
Santa will visit the library on Saturday, Dec. 14 beginning at 1 p.m.\u00a0 He will be on the Children\u2019s Floor (second floor) visiting with the children and hearing their gift requests.\u00a0 Santa will read a few of his favorite books also.\u00a0 Please feel free to bring your camera and take some pictures of your child with Santa.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. local author Dawn Eddy will be at the library to talk about her newly published book, \u201cA Good Knight and an Ordinary Day.\u201d \u00a0This is a Christian book and there is a Biblical message to it.\u00a0 The story is based on Eph 6 – The armor of God.<\/p>\n
After 30 years of marriage and with three adult children, it is Mrs. Eddy\u2019s desire to honor and remember the everyday \u201cwarrior\u201d moments in an ordinary day.\u00a0 Of her three children, her two sons are serving in the USAF.\u00a0 Both of them will be joining us at the Canastota Library book signing event.\u00a0 Her daughter will also be there.<\/p>\n
The family hopes to inspire our local children to put on the armor of God as they valiantly conquer each day.\u00a0 All are invited to attend. The book will be on sale at the library and the author would be happy to autograph it for anyone who purchases it.<\/p>\n
The Canastota Public Library will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and will be closed Dec. 25 for Christmas Day.\u00a0 The library will close at 4:30 p.m. on New Year\u2019s Eve (Dec. 31) and will be closed on New Year\u2019s Day, Jan. 1, 2014.<\/p>\n
