Hanna\u2019s work on issues important to a broad cross section of constituents in the 22nd Congressional District. The report covers constituent services, legislative work, local successes and district outreach, among other areas of interest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs 2013 draws to a close, it is clear that Washington is broken,\u201d\u00a0Rep. Hanna said. \u201cHowever, your congressional office is not. We are making good progress both in the hall of Congress and across upstate New York to support families, businesses, farmers and veterans in the 22nd Congressional District.\u00a0I look forward to constituents\u2019 ideas on how we can serve them even better in 2014.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Hanna responded to\u00a0more than 48,500 constituent letters, emails and faxes in 2013. Rep. Hanna places a priority on answering constituents\u2019 questions and concerns about pending federal legislation and policies.<\/p>\n<p>Madison County:<\/p>\n<p>Correspondence:\u00a04,006 letters<br \/>\nAssistance with federal agencies:\u00a048 individuals<\/p>\n<p>Oswego County:<\/p>\n<p>Correspondence:\u00a02,560 letters<\/p>\n<p>Assistance with federal agencies:\u00a025 individuals<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notable Constituent Service Successes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Veterans Affairs Assistance\u00a0\u2013 Rep. Hanna helped\u00a0303 constituents\u00a0with Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense issues.\u00a0 Success stories include helping a veteran with terminal cancer by expediting his claim and assisting another veteran in getting reimbursed for life-saving emergency services.<\/p>\n<p>Social Security\u00a0\u2013 Rep. Hanna helped more than\u00a0123 constituents\u00a0work through Social Security benefits difficulties.\u00a0 Success stories including helping one constituent receive retroactive benefits in the amount of $33,000 and another received benefits due to him from his late mother in the amount of $11,000.<\/p>\n<p>Medicare\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Rep. Hanna aided more than\u00a028 constituents\u00a0resolve Medicare claims in 2013.\u00a0 Notable successes include assisting a rural ambulance company in obtaining $30,000 in back claims and helping a constituent receive a favorable decision for immune system medication which was needed due to a life threatening illness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Around the District<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Hanna and his staff met face-to-face with constituents to hear their concerns and find solutions to their problems.\u00a0 Rep. Hanna and his staff hosted 17 public meetings\u00a0with constituents, including Open Doors with Rep. Hanna, Staff Open Doors, Veterans Office Hours and other Open House events throughout the district.<\/p>\n<p>The Town of Lenox in\u00a0Madison County\u00a0received a $3.6 million USDA Rural Development loan and $500,000 grant for a water project.<\/p>\n<p>The Port of Oswego in\u00a0Oswego County\u00a0received a $1.5 million federal grant for a new rail link.<\/p>\n<p>The Port of Oswego in\u00a0Oswego County\u00a0received a $192,000 federal grant for rail upgrades.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Military Medal Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Hanna was able to provide\u00a043 military medals to deserving veterans in the 22nd District.<\/p>\n<p>This included:<\/p>\n<p>18 Army medals<br \/>\n11 Navy medals<br \/>\n7 Marine Corps medals<br \/>\n5 Air Force\/Army Air Corps medals<br \/>\n2 Purple Hearts<\/p>\n<p>The Purple Heart recipients were: the family of Sgt. Thomas Cook of Hamilton in Madison County who served during Vietnam, and the family of Nicholas Maiola of Herkimer who served during World War II.<\/p>\n<p>These are just some of the topics covered in the 23-page report.<\/p>\n<p>Constituents are encouraged to provide feedback to Rep.
