{"id":53849,"date":"2014-02-26T13:00:48","date_gmt":"2014-02-26T18:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=53849"},"modified":"2014-02-25T21:53:31","modified_gmt":"2014-02-26T02:53:31","slug":"march-movies-painting-exhibit-and-more-at-the-caz-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=53849","title":{"rendered":"March Movies, Painting Exhibit and More at the Caz Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Cazenovia-library-new.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-42437\" alt=\"Cazenovia library new\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Cazenovia-library-new.jpg?resize=226%2C96\" width=\"226\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a>Cazenovia Public Library news<\/p>\n<p>(Cazenovia, NY \u2013 Feb. 2014) Moviegoers who love a heart-pounding thriller won\u2019t want to miss\u00a0Gravity\u00a0to be shown at the Cazenovia Public Library on Wednesday, March 5\u00a0at 3:15 and 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Gravity\u00a0is directed by Oscar nominee Alfonso Cuaron and stars Oscar winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.\u00a0 This thriller pulls the viewer into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space.\u00a0 Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, and Clooney plays veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky.\u00a0 On this seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes.\u00a0 The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone.\u00a0 \u00a0(Amazon.com)<\/p>\n<p>Gravity\u00a0runs for 91 minutes and is rated PG-13.<\/p>\n<p>Hunger Games: Catching Fire\u00a0will be shown on Friday, March 7\u00a0at 3:15 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>This film is the second adaptation from Suzanne Collins\u2019s\u00a0Hunger Games\u00a0trilogy in which the bonds between Katniss Everdeen (Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), and Gale (Liam Hemsworth) are strengthened.\u00a0 InCatching Fire,\u00a0Katniss and Peeta become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th\u00a0Hunger Games\u00a0sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.\u00a0 Get ready for the cliffhanger ending that serves up an array of splendors from killer baboons to the ever-amazing character outfits.\u00a0\u00a0(Amazon.com)<\/p>\n<p>Hunger Games: Catching Fire\u00a0runs for 146 minutes and is rated PG-13.<\/p>\n<p>Both films will be shown in the library Community Room.\u00a0As always, admission and popcorn are free.<\/p>\n<p>Theorem Painting Exhibited<\/p>\n<p>Through\u00a0March 31, visitors to the Cazenovia Public Library Art Gallery may enjoy theorem paintings by Cazenovia resident Janet McCobb.<\/p>\n<p>Theorem Painting is an early American Decorative Technique that dates back to the first half of the 19th\u00a0Century.\u00a0 It first began to appear in the New England states between 1810 and 1840 when the popularity of embroidery as the \u201cessential\u201d skill for young ladies began to decline.<\/p>\n<p>The cohesive composition of theorems is achieved through a series of stencils cut in such a manner that no two areas immediately next to each other can be placed on the same stencil.\u00a0 Any theorem, therefore, will require the sequence of two or more stencils or overlays.\u00a0 Paint is then rubbed into the stencils with details added by hand with a fine brush.<\/p>\n<p>McCobb\u2019s exhibition includes works from an eclectic array of antique patterns and can be viewed during regular library hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and\u00a010 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.<\/p>\n<p>Alzheimer\u2019s Program<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMemory Loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer\u2019s Disease: The Basics\u201d will be presented by the Alzheimer\u2019s Association, Central NY Chapter, on Thursday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cazenovia Public Library Community Room.<\/p>\n<p>If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer\u2019s disease or dementia, it\u2019s time to learn the facts.<\/p>\n<p>This presentation will provide information on the difference between normal aging and dementia as well as exploring how the brain works.\u00a0\u00a0 Dementia and its stages will be defined and the importance of clinical trials explained.\u00a0\u00a0 An overview of the programs and services offered by the Alzheimer\u2019s Association will also be given.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is required.
