{"id":54114,"date":"2014-03-09T20:28:58","date_gmt":"2014-03-10T00:28:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=54114"},"modified":"2014-03-09T20:28:58","modified_gmt":"2014-03-10T00:28:58","slug":"morrisville-state-college-posts-mens-womens-lacrosse-scores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=54114","title":{"rendered":"Morrisville State College Posts Men\u2019s, Women\u2019s Lacrosse Scores"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Morrisville-State-Lacrosse-logo.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-41393\" alt=\"Morrisville State Lacrosse logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Morrisville-State-Lacrosse-logo.jpg?resize=216%2C133\" width=\"216\" height=\"133\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Morrisville-State-Lacrosse-logo.jpg?w=216&amp;ssl=1 216w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Morrisville-State-Lacrosse-logo.jpg?resize=150%2C92&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/><\/a>Women drop season opener 17-6 to Oswego<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>By\u00a0Brandy Thurston, Director of Sports Information<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Morrisville, NY \u2013 March 8, 2014)\u00a0The Morrisville State College women\u2019s lacrosse team opened the 2014 season campaign with a 17-6 non-conference loss to Oswego State Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.<\/p>\n<p>Junior Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) and freshman Hunter Waldau (Central Square, N.Y.) each scored a pair of goals for the Mustangs, while Ally Zlinsky (Owego, N.Y.) and Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) posted one each.<\/p>\n<p>Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) registered the loss in net, turning away 16 Oswego shots in 60 minutes of play.<\/p>\n<p>Erannan Shattuck and Mackenzie Kjerstad each posted three scores to lead Oswego in the winning effort, with Shattuck adding an assist to her tallies on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Nikki Greco earned the win, posting seven saves for Oswego.<\/p>\n<p>Zlinsky notched the first score of the day for the Mustangs, posting the free position goal at the 27:07 mark before Oswego rattled off eight straight for a 8-1 lead at the\u00a03:08\u00a0mark.<\/p>\n<p>Wood posted her first score of the season with\u00a02:15\u00a0to go to cut the lead to seven, but Oswego added one more goal seconds before the end of the half for a 9-2 lead.<\/p>\n<p>Waldau scored 33 seconds into the second period to make it a six goal game for the Mustangs, but over the ensuing 10 minutes, both team traded scores before Oswego tallied the final four goals to collect the non-conference win.<\/p>\n<p>Oswego outgained the Mustangs 30-24 in ground balls, and held a 37-17 advantage in shots.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men\u2019s lacrosse stuns Geneseo, pulls 9-8 upset<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>By\u00a0Brandy Thurston, Director of Sports Information<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Rochester, NY \u2013 March 8, 2014) \u00a0The Morrisville State College men\u2019s lacrosse team used an explosive third quarter to get past host SUNY Geneseo 9-8 for the upset\u00a0Saturday\u00a0afternoon in Rochester.<\/p>\n<p>The win is the third straight for the Mustangs, who currently sit 3-0 on the season. Geneseo drops its opener.<\/p>\n<p>Six Mustangs posted scores on the day, including Tom Rosaschi (East Syracuse, N.Y.) who notched the hat-trick, leading the way with three goals. Jeremy Beresovoy (Jamesville, N.Y.) added two, while Brandon Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.), Andrew Donoghue (Rochester, N.Y.), Eliud Evans (Culver City, Calif.) and Cha Izyk (North Syracuse, N.Y.) each tallied one in the win.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded the win between the pipes, registering six saves.<\/p>\n<p>Morrisville State held a 31-25 advantage in shots, and edged the Knights in ground balls 34-31.<\/p>\n<p>After a two goal opening quarter, Geneseo posted three unanswered tallies in the second to take a 5-2 lead into the half.<\/p>\n<p>The Mustangs quickly turned the tables on the Knights in the third, dominating play on the field, as they posted five unanswered tallies of their own, including two within the opening two minutes of the quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Geneseo added a score with\u00a01:39\u00a0to go in the third to make it a 7-6 game in favor of the Mustangs and send it into the final 15.<\/p>\n<p>Morrisville State\u2019s Beresovoy gave the Mustangs a two goal cushion in the opening minute, but Geneseo responded with one of their own seconds later to keep it at a one goal margin.<\/p>\n<p>Beresovoy again answered at the 11 minute mark for Morrisville State, but a Knight score at\u00a08:00\u00a0again made it a one goal game.<\/p>\n<p>The Mustangs held on for the win despite a persistent Geneseo attack that included two shots that ricocheted off the post.<\/p>\n<p>Morrisville State returns to the field\u00a0Wednesday, hosting Plattsburgh for their home opener.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women drop season opener 17-6 to Oswego By\u00a0Brandy Thurston, Director of Sports Information (Morrisville, NY \u2013 March 8, 2014)\u00a0The Morrisville State College women\u2019s lacrosse team opened the 2014 season campaign with a 17-6 non-conference loss to Oswego State Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
