<\/a>(Cazenovia, NY \u2013 June 2014) Dr. Timothy McLaughlin, retired Professor of History at Cazenovia College, will present \u201cWhat I Did on My Winter Vacation: A Visit to the Golden Isles of Georgia\u201d on\u00a0Wednesday, June 18 at\u00a07 p.m.\u00a0in the Cazenovia Public Library Community Room.<\/p>\nAll are invited to join him and hear the story of the Gullah\/Greechee, the inhabitants of the Sea Islands of Georgia and South Carolina who lived a peaceful and isolated life on their islands and coastal settlements until their existence became threatened, and in many places shattered, as a result of economic development.<\/p>\n

Open Afternoon Book Club meets\u00a0June 18<\/strong><\/p>\n The “Open Afternoon Book Club” for adults meets in the Cazenovia Public Library’s \u00a0Story Garden every third\u00a0Wednesday at 1 p.m. For the\u00a0June 18\u00a0meeting, the group is reading\u00a0The Signature of All Things, Elizabeth Gilbert\u2019s first novel in 13 years and an \u201cAmazon Best Book of the Month\u201d selection for October 2013.<\/p>\n Gilbert\u2019s novel\u00a0is peopled with unforgettable characters, but most memorable of all is Alma Whittaker.\u00a0\u00a0 Born in the Age of Enlightenment but living well into the Industrial Revolution, she bears witness to that extraordinary moment in human history when all of the old assumptions about science, religion, commerce, and class were exploding into dangerous new ideas.\u00a0(Amazon.com)<\/p>\n The “Open Afternoon Book Club” is free and open to the public. Copies of \u201cThe Signature of All Things\u00a0are available at the circulation desk.\u00a0All are welcome.<\/p>\n This is the last meeting of the \u201cOpen Afternoon Book Club\u201d for the season.\u00a0 Watch for details on their fall schedule when they resume in September.<\/p>\n A two-day Lego Special<\/strong><\/p>\n Jenna Wright is calling all kids, young and old, to the Cazenovia Public Library for LEGO MY LIBRARY on June 20\u00a0and 21.<\/p>\n June 20:\u00a0Activities begin with\u00a0The Lego Movie\u00a0to be shown in the Library Community Room\u00a0at 3:15 and 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n One of those rare movies that is equally entertaining for kids and adults,\u00a0The Lego Movie\u00a0is a 3D animated film that follows lead character Emmet, a completely ordinary LEGO construction worker.\u00a0 Identified as the most \u201cextraordinary person,\u201d Emmet is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant, Lord Business, from gluing the Lego universe together\u2014a quest for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.
