Former Colgate Assistant Returns Home; Served 16 Years as Morrisville State Head Coach<\/p>\n

(Hamilton, NY \u2013 July 2014) Colgate head coach Dan Hunt announced earlier this month that Hamilton native Terry Dow is joining his staff as an assistant coach.<\/p>\n

Dow\u2019s primary responsibility is with the tight ends and H-backs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very excited about the addition of Terry to our staff,\u201d Hunt said. \u201cHe is very familiar with Colgate and all of our coaches, and he has an outstanding reputation with the high school coaches in New York and New Jersey.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has been a head coach for a long time, and I certainly will draw from his experience. I am very happy he decided to come back to Colgate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dow previously coached at Colgate in 1991 under head coach Mike Foley, and he just completed the 2013 season as a volunteer assistant for the Raiders under Dick Biddle. Dow recently served 16 years as head coach at nearby Morrisville State, helping reinstate the program in 1997 and eventually transitioning the Mustangs from the junior college ranks into the NCAA\u2019s Division III classification.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very much looking forward to being a part of the Dan Hunt era here at Colgate,\u201d Dow said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for both me and my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0Juco Success<\/strong><\/p>\n

Throughout Dow\u2019s 16 seasons at Morrisville State, he\u00a0claimed three NJCAA Northeast\u00a0Football\u00a0Conference championships and two Region III titles, while being named the\u00a0NFC\u00a0Coach\u00a0of the Year twice. Dow coached 83\u00a0NFCAll-Conference selections, six conference players of the year and 11 NJCAAAll-America\u00a0team\u00a0selections.<\/p>\n

For five consecutive seasons (2001-06), the\u00a0NFC\u00a0named one of Dow\u2019s student-athletes as its offensive or defensive player of the year.<\/p>\n

Morrisville State\u2019s 2001 NFC Defensive Player of the Year and NJCAA All-American linebacker, Alex Lewis, was the first Mustang under Dow to be drafted into the NFL in 2004. Lewis was picked by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the annual draft. Curtis Johnson joined Lewis in the NFL in 2008, earning a position on the Indianapolis Colts roster as a defensive end.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was very fortunate to coach some great players during my time at State, many of whom I\u2019m still in touch with today,\u201d Dow said.<\/p>\n

A 1990 graduate of Ithaca College with a bachelor of science\u00a0in physical education, Dow spent two seasons as a lineman under legendary Bombers head coach Jim Butterfield. He remained at Ithaca for three additional years and began his career as assistant coach for the offensive and defensive lines.<\/p>\n

In 1991, Dow joined the football coaching staff at Colgate in charge of tight ends before accepting a coaching position at Monmouth in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

Named offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Monmouth in 1993, Dow spent four seasons gaining vast knowledge and experience on the Division I-AA level, bringing his experience to Morrisville State\u00a0in 1997.<\/p>\n

He and his wife are both locals. Dow grew up in Hamilton, while the former Brenda Bogan is from nearby Waterville. They reside in Hamilton with their three children: Zachary, Olivia and Trevor.<\/p>\n
