(Verona, NY \u2013 Aug. 2014) Each member of Fritz’s Polka Band (FPB)\u00a0from\u00a0Verona has been nominated for national awards by the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame (CSPHOF) in\u00a0Euclid,\u00a0Ohio.<\/p>\n

Original remaining FPB members,\u00a0Fritz Scherz (accordionist\/vocalist) and Gabe Vaccaro (bassist\/vocalist) have both been nominated in the \u201cMusician of the Year\u201d category, while fellow FPB members, Frank Nelson (guitarist\/vocalist) and Mike Faraino (drummer) have been nominated in the \u201cSideman of theYear\u201d category.<\/p>\n

The winners will be announced during the CSPHOF Awards Show, being held on Saturday, Nov. 29\u00a0at the Cleveland Downtown Marriott Hotel as part of the annual Thanksgiving Polka Weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe members of FPB were already looking forward to playing again in Cleveland\u00a0on Nov. 28th\u00a0and 29th\u00a0at the Marriott, as the last time we played there we had a blast,\u201d said\u00a0Fritz Scherz, band leader of\u00a0Fritz’s Polka Band.\u00a0 \u201cNow, with each of us nominated for national awards, this has raised our anticipation for Thanksgiving Weekend tenfold. To think we get to play twice this weekend AND attend the awards show as nominees is a fantastic feeling! We encourage our friends to join the CSPHOF and vote for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fritz’s Polka Band has been performing for over 35 years, and made history in 1999 by becoming the first polka band to perform at a Woodstock Festival in\u00a0Rome,\u00a0NY.\u00a0 FPB has made 18 recordings and even appears\u00a0on\u00a0“The Manchurian Candidate”\u00a0DVD, which was released in 2004.<\/p>\n

FPB won a Just Plain Folks Music Award in the Best Polka Song category for\u00a0Bialczak\u2019s Polka\u00a0in 2008.<\/p>\n

FPB won an Upper State Independent (USI) Award in\u00a0Syracuse in the International Category in 2008 and 2009.<\/p>\n

In June 2009, FPB won their first ever Syracuse Area Music Award (SAMMY) in the Best Recording:\u00a0 Other Styles category for their\u00a0\u201cReflections\u201d recording.<\/p>\n

In 2010, FPB was inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

In 2011, Fritz\u2019s Polka Band had two songs (\u2018Grandparent\u2019s Polka\u2019 and \u2018Here Is Fritz\u2019s Polka Band\u2019) included in two different episodes of the hit cable TV show, \u2018Breaking Bad.\u2019<\/p>\n

FPB was also nominated last year for two USI Awards.<\/p>\n

On Nov. 1, 2013, FPB released their 18th\u00a0recording, a double live CD entitled,\u00a0\u201cThe WSKG Sessions.\u201d<\/p>\n
