{"id":57466,"date":"2014-08-18T10:00:24","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T14:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=57466"},"modified":"2014-08-17T17:05:13","modified_gmt":"2014-08-17T21:05:13","slug":"herkimer-county-healthnet-presents-40000-in-awards-for-playgrounds-trails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=57466","title":{"rendered":"Herkimer County HealthNet Presents $40,000 in Awards for Playgrounds, Trails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Grant-money.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-47770\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Grant-money.jpg?resize=200%2C150\" alt=\"Grant money\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(Herkimer County, NY \u2013 Aug. 2014) Herkimer County HealthNet has selected three trails and two playgrounds for improvements as part of the Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play in Herkimer County Grant.<\/p>\n<p>Through an application process, municipalities and 501(C)3 non-profit organizations located in Herkimer County applied.\u00a0 The recipients, selected by the Herkimer County HealthNet Wellness Committee, demonstrated matching and\/or in-kind contributions through collaboration with other community organizations, donated materials, and volunteer time.<\/p>\n<p>The recipients and projects are as follows;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Village of Dolgeville \u2013\u00a0Dolgeville-Salisbury Greenway Trail<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Village of Herkimer \u2013\u00a0Harmon Field Playground<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Town of Ohio \u2013\u00a0Municipal Playground<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Owen D. Young School \u2013\u00a0Robert Woodruff Trail<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Town of Webb \u2013\u00a0TOBIE Trail<\/p>\n<p>Herkimer County HealthNet\u2019s Executive Director said, \u201cWe are pleased with the response of communities that are continuing to make improvements to their playgrounds and trails. Not only do these environmental changes impact health, they also impact the quality of life and economic development in our area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Herkimer County HealthNet is a New York State Department of Health funded Rural Health Network that administers the Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play grant.\u00a0 Creating Healthy Places focuses on preventing obesity and type 2 diabetes by supporting and promoting environmental changes in Herkimer County.\u00a0 The\u00a0five projects awardedsupport this by improving local playgrounds and trails, creating and enhancing spaces where families can\u00a0participate in physical activity\u00a0in\u00a0fun and\u00a0safe environments.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010, Herkimer County HealthNet has contributed over $250,000 to communities in Herkimer County that are investing in their parks, trails, playgrounds, and roadways for the purpose of creating and enhancing spaces for people to enjoy and to encourage physical activity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Herkimer County HealthNet\u2019s mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals who live, work, play, and learn in Herkimer County.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Herkimer County, NY \u2013 Aug. 2014) Herkimer County HealthNet has selected three trails and two playgrounds for improvements as part of the Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play in Herkimer County Grant.
