Funds raised by this campaign &#8211; which will include a social media challenge and a children\u2019s book party &#8211; will benefit the Literacy Coalition of Madison County NY (LCMC NY).<\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit www.colgatebookstore.com\/hugabook.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the new picture book Hug Machine by Scott Campbell and the Bookstore\u2019s passion for childhood literacy, Hug a Book Week will feature three opportunities to raise awareness and donations for local literacy initiatives:<\/p>\n<p>The Colgate Bookstore will donate 10 percent of all children\u2019s book sales from Sept. 6 to 14 to LCMC NY.<\/p>\n<p>For every picture of a person hugging a book posted to the Bookstore\u2019s Facebook page (facebook.com\/colgatebookstore) or shared on Twitter (tag @colg8bookstore and include a #hugabook hashtag) between Children\u2019s Program Coordinator Heather Elia pledges to donate $1 of her own money to LCMC NY (up to $100).<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon the Bookstore will host a Hug a Book children\u2019s program and pizza party in the Class of 2003 Events Room (third floor) at 3 Utica St. A dramatic reading of the featured title and other book-themed stories will be followed by crafts, activities, and a pizza and salad lunch. Open to children of all ages and their families, although intended mainly for ages 3 to 7, this program is free of charge. However, optional suggested donations of $2\/child will be accepted. One-hundred percent of the funds collected will be forwarded directly to the Literacy Coalition of Madison County. It is committed to facilitating coordinated action between existing groups to significantly and permanently raise the county&#8217;s literacy levels.
