Valesky warned the public about reports of scammers attempting to illegally obtain personal information under the guise of confirming their eligibility for a state tax rebate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are aware that scammers are targeting Central New York,\u201d Senator Valesky said. \u201cI urge everyone to be vigilant, to make sure their family and friends are aware of the scam, and to report any incidents to the Attorney General.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York State Tax Department does not directly contact residents by phone about tax rebates, and eligibility for the Family Tax Relief and Property Tax Freeze Credits that are being mailed now is determined by existing data.<\/p>\n<p>If you receive a call requesting personal information about tax rebates, Senator Valesky advises to hang up immediately and call the Attorney General&#8217;s Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau at\u00a01-800-771-7755\u00a0to report the issue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Oct. 2014) State Senator David J.
