Ms. Eddy was a graduate of Canastota High School as well as a graduate of John Hopkins University.\u00a0 She was an athlete, an artist, a thespian and a scholar. Eddy felt a passion towards writing and also towards her community.<\/p>\n<p>Entry Forms are currently available for the Writing Contest at the Library\u2019s Circulation Desk.\u00a0 Entry requirements for the contest indicate that one entry of a Poem or short story (500 -5,000 words) may be submitted.\u00a0 There are four age categories for submission and entries of those age categories will be judged in the two categories of poetry and short stories.\u00a0 The age categories include age 10 and under; 11 \u2013 14 years, 15 \u2013 18 years and 18 years and older.\u00a0 Short stories and poems may be any style or subject and the contest is absolutely free to enter.\u00a0 There are no residential requirements or limits.<\/p>\n<p>Entries may be mailed to the Library at Canastota Public Library, Rebecca Eddy Memorial Writing Contest, 102 W. Center St., Canastota 13032.\u00a0 Entries may also be dropped off at the Canastota Public Library.\u00a0 All entries must be submitted to the library by the close of business on March 31st at the close of business.\u00a0 Prizes will be awarded in each age and writing category.\u00a0 All first place winners will receive a cash award of $25.\u00a0 Second place winners will receive a $10 award.\u00a0 Winners will be announced on April 13 at 7 p.m. at a special awards ceremony at the Canastota Public Library.\u00a0 At that time, entrants will also have the opportunity to read their poem or short story to the audience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canastota Public Library news (Canastota, NY \u2013 Jan. 2015) The Rebecca Eddy Memorial Writing Contest is currently underway at the Canastota Public Library.\u00a0 Entrants may enter their short stories and poetry in one of four age categories.
