{"id":60648,"date":"2015-03-04T11:00:13","date_gmt":"2015-03-04T16:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=60648"},"modified":"2015-03-02T19:25:16","modified_gmt":"2015-03-03T00:25:16","slug":"sherrill-coffee-house-hosts-blue-grass-band","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=60648","title":{"rendered":"Sherrill Coffee House Hosts Blue Grass Band"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Creek-15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-60649\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Creek-15.jpg\" alt=\"Creek 15\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Creek-15.jpg 400w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Creek-15-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Creek-15-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a>Pictured from the left to right are\u00a0Gary Dygert, Lori Thompson, Chris Pepe and Cathy Martin.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Sherrill, NY \u2013 March 2015) Cincinnati\u00a0Creek, a blue grass band known throughout New York State, will be performing at Christ Church United Methodist Community Coffee House in Sherrill on\u00a0Saturday, March 14 at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The church is located at 417 Park St., Sherrill.<\/p>\n<p>Coffee and dessert will be served.\u00a0 The Christ Church Community Coffee House is open to the community.<\/p>\n<p>A free will offering will be accepted.\u00a0 Children as well as adults are welcome.<br \/>\nNow in their seventh season together, Cincinnati Creek offers the listener an acoustic variety of bluegrass, original compositions, and gospel.\u00a0 There are several new songs in the works, many of them Lori\u2019s original compositions.\u00a0\u00a0 No doubt, you will also hear some songs from their 2010 release, \u201cDoing As We Please.\u201d\u00a0 This CD and the 2005 release, \u201cLittle Bit of Love,\u201d are often featured on WKTV\u2019s local TV program \u201cMohawk Valley Living.&#8221;\u00a0 Cincinnati Creek performs songs about life, love, and local folklore.\u00a0\u00a0 Live performances include traditional\u00a0bluegrass instrumentals and songs with three and four part harmonies, sprinkled with some history and fun too.<\/p>\n<p>Cincinnati Creek features seasoned\u00a0 musicians who have performed in New York State for many years.\u00a0\u00a0 In 2008, Lori Thompson, Chris Pepe, and Gary Dygert, previous members in the Stump Hollow Band,\u00a0formed this new configuration, along with Cathy Martin, to carry on their tradition of great music. Based in the Adirondack foothills, they took their name from the creek that runs through the area.\u00a0\u00a0 They have performed at venues including MWPAI, Bluegrass festivals, The Remsen Barn Festival, Utica\u00a0Monday Night, The Adirondack Railroad, and numerous coffee houses and outdoor festivals.<\/p>\n<p>Lori Thompson learned how to play instruments and sing from her family.\u00a0 Her father, Art Sutton, and brothers, Warren and Ron, were established bluegrass musicians in the Hudson Valley area since the mid-1960s.\u00a0\u00a0 Lori got her start with the family band in the 1980s before moving to the Mohawk Valley.\u00a0 She has been writing songs for several decades as well.\u00a0 Currently, Lori plays mandolin, guitar, and sings both lead and harmony vocals for Cincinnati Creek.\u00a0 Her songs are inspired by her family, friends, and historical events.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cThe Ghost of Wash Loomis\u201d was written about the infamous Loomis Gang from the Sangerfield area.\u00a0 She performed her song about the 19th century Forestport breaks called,\u00a0\u201cWhere the Black River Flows,\u201d on\u00a0 WKTV\u2019s program,\u00a0 Mohawk Valley Living in 2007.\u00a0 The Civil War tune, \u201cHome to You,\u201d explores the tragic experience of family fighting on opposite sides.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Pepe began playing instruments in high school. He was inspired to play banjo at a local bluegrass festival.\u00a0 He also sings harmony on a few tunes as well.\u00a0 His fancy picking and good humor are a great addition to the band.\u00a0 Chris began playing the banjo in 1992.\u00a0 He and Lori have been performing together for over 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Dygert plays the guitar, dobro, and mandolin.\u00a0 He also sings lead and harmony vocals.\u00a0 Like Lori, Gary has family ties to music as his father played the guitar and his grandfather was a fiddler.\u00a0 Every group needs an official musicologist, and Gary adds many interesting tunes to the group\u2019s repertoire.\u00a0 Gary has performed in many other local bands over the years such as\u00a0Midnight\u00a0Flyer and Keeping it Country.<\/p>\n<p>Cathy Martin also is multitalented.\u00a0 She learned to play several instruments at a young age including the piano.\u00a0 The bass is her latest endeavor.\u00a0 Cathy also adds tenor harmony to the group.\u00a0\u00a0 She has been a performer for many years with the Remsen Community Choir and the Steuben Players as well.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please call 725-0974 or 363-1061. \u00a0The church website is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.christchurchsherrillny.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.christchurchsherrillny.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pictured from the left to right are\u00a0Gary Dygert, Lori Thompson, Chris Pepe and Cathy Martin.
