A graduate of Canastota High School, he went on to study at the New England Aeronautical Institute. He lives with his wife of 37 years, Jacqueline, in Oneida.<\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to an artist\u2019s reception that will be held at the conclusion of the Stuy exhibit on\u00a0Friday, April 24, from\u00a05:00 to 6:30 p.m.\u00a0at the library.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Children\u2019s author Constance Watkins joins Story Hour\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Oneida, NY &#8211; April 2015) Artist and children\u2019s book author Constance Watkins will read her latest work \u201cA Duck Named Eddie\u201d for story time during the Ready! Set! Read! program at Oneida Public Library on\u00a0Thursday, April 16, at\u00a010 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Duck Named Eddie,\u201d boasting illustrations from Watkins\u2019 own artwork, is her sixth book for children. Her previous titles are \u201cThe Icebox Snowball,\u201d \u201cJoey Days,\u201d \u201cThat Was the Kitten That Was,\u201d \u201cHappy Was His Name\u201d and \u201cMushu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Watkins is active in the local art scene, being a member of the Kirkland Art Center, Utica Art Association and the Old Forge Art Gallery. She has exhibited her own pastels, acrylics and photographs throughout the Mohawk Valley, including the Oneida Public Library, and has won several awards for her work.<\/p>\n<p>She will be bring copies of \u201cA Duck Named Eddie to the OPL program for sale and signing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Tom Townsley introduces his poetry\u00a0April 18\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Musician, artist, teacher and broadcaster Tom Townsley has now turned his gifted hand to poetry and will introduce his new collection, \u201cReading the Empty Page,\u201d at Oneida Public Library on\u00a0Saturday, April 18, at\u00a01:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The poems in, \u201cReading the Empty Page,\u201d described by one critic as \u201creminiscent of Wallace Steven\u2019s \u2018Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird,\u2019\u201d are meditations on language, meaning and poetry itself.<\/p>\n<p>A resident of Verona, Townsley has taught English and fine arts courses at Syracuse University, Utica College and Mohawk Valley Community College. As a musician, he has lent his skills in vocals and the harmonica to the blues scene in Central New York for decades, most notably in the band Tom Townsley and the Backsliders.<\/p>\n<p>For 26 years Townsley was the host of \u201cThe\u00a0Sunday\u00a0Night Blues Show\u201d on WAER-FM out of Syracuse University. He bowed out in July 2012 to take up full-time teaching at Mohawk Valley Community College.<\/p>\n<p>Townsley is also a painter of what he calls \u201cabstract expressionism,\u201d using acrylics and highly textured surfaces to full effect.
