{"id":61296,"date":"2015-04-15T13:00:16","date_gmt":"2015-04-15T17:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=61296"},"modified":"2015-04-14T17:37:07","modified_gmt":"2015-04-14T21:37:07","slug":"historian-to-present-program-on-sodus-bay-shakers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=61296","title":{"rendered":"Historian to Present Program on Sodus Bay Shakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u201cSimple Pleasures\u201d The story of the Sodus Bay Shakers, The Sodus Bay and Genesee Valley Lateral Canals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(Camillus, NY \u2013 April 2015) Mary Messere, a well know historian and writer, will be at the Sims Store on the Erie Canal on Saturday April 18\u00a0at\u00a09:45 am, to present a very special program on the Sodus Bay Shakers and the Sodus and Genesee Valley Canals.<\/p>\n<p>The story of the Canals and the Sodus Shakers dates back to the early days of New York State\u2019s Canal times and some of its earliest Shaker Communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Sodus Canal is a mysterious link to the many lateral canals that were proposed in the 1830\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0Each was promoted in hopes of bringing commerce and growth to their respected areas by linking with the Erie Canal.
