(Canastota, NY- April 2015) For the Canastota Public Library\u2019s Artist for May, Art has been a way of life.\u00a0 Pamela Vogan Lynch has been a professional art educator for more than 35 years.\u00a0 Her work will be on display at the library for the month and an Artist\u2019s Reception is planned for Tuesday May 5 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend, view the display, meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments.<\/p>\n

Most recently, Vogan Lynch has worked as high school art instructor and Director of Art, K through 12 for the Oneida City School District.\u00a0 There, she was responsible for a department of eight art instructors, ongoing NYS Standards based curriculum development, managing the materials and supplies budget and ordering for seven schools as well as daily art instruction for grades 10 through 12.<\/p>\n

Vogan Lynch has also mentored several student teachers from Syracuse University and SUNY Oswego.\u00a0 She has worked as an adjunct professor at MVCC (Mohawk Valley Community College), a Museum Educator at Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute and as a professional artist.\u00a0 She serves on the Board of Trustees for the OCSD Foundation Board, The Board of Directors for the Central New York Watercolor Society, the Madison County Historical Society Collections Committee and is a signature member of CNY Watercolor Society, a member of the Cazenovia Watercolor Society and the Adirondack Pastel Society.<\/p>\n

Vogan Lynch\u2019s work will be shown in the Lawson Community Room on the lower level of the Canastota Public Library for the entire month of May.<\/p>\n

Vogan Lynch enjoys working in watercolor and has also worked in oils, acrylics, stained glass, jewelry, mixed media and fiber arts.\u00a0 Her exhibit will have a variety of subject matter as she is inspired by many things.\u00a0 Her paintings are a reflection of the artistic journey that she has been on since retiring for full time teaching. While the majority of the paintings are transparent watercolors, Vogan Lynch will also include oils, acrylics and pastels in the mix.<\/p>\n

Other Events Scheduled in May<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cAh! my heart is weary waiting, Waiting for the May: Waiting for the pleasant rambles Where the fragrant hawthorn brambles, Where the woodbine alternating, Scent the dewy way; Ah! my heart is weary, waiting, Waiting for the May.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 ~Denis Florence McCarthy<\/em><\/p>\n

As McCarthy, we\u2019ve all be waiting for May\u2026a time for the earth to renew and for us to plant and toil in our gardens.\u00a0 And, finally, May is here.<\/p>\n

The second artist show will be held in our Crow\u2019s Nest area of the library.\u00a0 Canastota High School Senior, Brianne Wilcox will display her Senior Art Show on the first and second floor of the library beginning the first week of May.\u00a0 An artist\u2019s reception will be held for Brianne on Wednesday, May 6 beginning at 6pm.<\/p>\n

The public is also invited to attend this reception.<\/p>\n

The Book Chat Group has selected \u201cThe Boys in the Boat\u201d by Daniel Brown as their discussion book for the May Meeting. Copies of the book are available now from the library.\u00a0 The Book Chat will meet on Tuesday, May 26 at 1 p.m. in the Carnegie Room on the second floor of the library.\u00a0 Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times. \u201cThe Boys in the Boat\u201d is the intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.<\/p>\n

The Night Time Knitters meet every Thursday evening at the Canastota Public Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Library Knitters meet every Friday morning at the Library from 10 am until noon.\u00a0 Both groups are interested in having knitters of all experience levels join them for knitting in the Lawson Community Room, Lower Level of the library.<\/p>\n

Baby and Me Lap Sit with Miss Angela is a program full of story reading, finger plays, songs, rhymes and more to stimulate your infant to 24 month old child. This program is held every Wednesday morning beginning at 10 a.m. on the second floor of the Canastota Public Libra<\/p>\n

Thursdays at 10 a.m. is Preschooler Storytime.\u00a0 Bring your preschooler for stories, games, crafts and a snack.\u00a0 This group meets on the second floor of the library each Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

For those who are interested in art, the library holds two classes each month.\u00a0 Canastota Creates is an art group that focusing on sketching, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, drawing, origami and many other art forms.\u00a0 Anyone who creates is invited to join this group which meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 1pm.\u00a0 Our Tangles Club meets the third Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m.\u00a0 Known by many as \u201cdoodling for adults\u201d, Tangling is said to increase focus and provide great artistic and personal satisfaction.<\/p>\n

Party Bridge is played at the library each Thursday afternoon at 1pm in our Lawson Community Room.\u00a0 Participants should be experienced Bridge Players and not beginners, please.\u00a0 Party Bridge is an open group and welcomes you to come and play whenever you are able.<\/p>\n
