Wood, Fiore named Mustang Athletes of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Morrisville, NY- April 2015) The Morrisville State College athletic department has selected its weekly award winners, naming women\u2019s lacrosse senior Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) and men\u2019s lacrosse junior Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 12.<\/p>\n

\"WOOD-MOR-WLX-2014\"<\/a>Wood led Morrisville State to a 3-0 week in conference play, netting a total 15 goals, while adding a total six assists, 11 ground balls, 12 draw controls and seven total caused turnovers.<\/p>\n

In the win over Cazenovia, Wood posted five scores and assisted another while picking up six ground balls, snagging four draws and causing two turnovers. She followed with an eight point game against Abington where she tallied five goals and three assists, caused three turnovers, while adding four ground balls and six draw controls to her tallies.<\/p>\n

On the week the senior averaged seven points per contest, 3.6 ground balls, four draw controls and 2.3 caused turnovers.<\/p>\n

The graduate of Academy of Holy Names is a journalism and communication for online media major at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Michelle and David Wood.<\/p>\n

Fiore was a defensive staple in the 9-2 victory over Hilbert College for the men Sunday, posting 12 saves while allowing just two goals for a 2.00 goals against average.<\/p>\n

His 85.7 percent save percentage included seven stops in the second half alone, five in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Fiore currently boasts a 2.00 goals against average within conference play, an 81.5 save percentage, as Morrisville State is 3-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).<\/p>\n

The junior is a sports, nutrition and fitness management major at Morrisville State. He is the son of Cathy and Kevin Fiore.<\/p>\n

Fiore named ECAC Corvias Division III Mid-Atlantic Defensive Player of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Morrisville, NY \u2013 April 2015)\u00a0The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its players of the week for Division I, II and III Wednesday, naming Morrisville State College junior goalkeeper Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) the Corvias Division III Mid-Atlantic Men\u2019s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.<\/p>\n

\"FioreC15\"<\/a>\u00a0Fiore was a defensive staple in the Mustangs 9-2 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over Hilbert Sunday, posting 12 saves to collect the victory, while allowing just two goals for a 2.00 goals against average.<\/p>\n

His 85.7 percent save percentage for the contest included seven stops in the second half alone, five in the third quarter. Fiore currently boasts a 2.00 goals against average within conference play, an 81.5 save percentage.<\/p>\n

Fiore holds the top spot in the NEAC in goals against average on the season (6.67), save percentage (63.8%), and is second overall in least amount of goals allowed with 55.<\/p>\n

He also holds to rankings in the top 17 in all of the NCAA Division III, including goals against average (17th) and save percentage (8th).<\/p>\n

Wood led Morrisville State to a 3-0 week within North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play, notching a total of 15 goals and assisting on another five as the Mustangs remained undefeated within the conference. She averaged 5.0 goals per contest, recording all three game-winners.<\/p>\n

The senior ranks in the top three in the conference in scoring, tied for first in points at 56, second in goals with 44 and third in assists with 12. She also is ranked in all of Division III in goals (48th), goals per game (4.0), and points per game (5.09).<\/p>\n

Wood was a second team ECAC All-Star selection at midfield last season, and was named the NEAC Player of the Year, earning first team all-conference accolades.<\/p>\n

The senior is a graduate of the Academy of Holy Names and is majoring in journalism and communication for online media at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Michelle and David Wood.<\/p>\n

Six Raiders Earn Patriot\u00a0Lacrosse\u00a0Honors<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"COLGATE<\/a>\u00a0(Hamilton, NY \u2013 April 2015) Colgate\u2019s run to a Patriot League regular season championship resulted in\u00a0postseason honors for\u00a0a half-dozen Raiders.<\/p>\n

Matt Clarkson repeated as an\u00a0All-Patriot League First\u00a0Team\u00a0member in the midfield, and he was joined by attackman Ryan Walsh. Second-team\u00a0placards went to defender Matt Yeager, midfielder Cameron Williams and goalkeeper Brandon Burke.<\/p>\n

Anthony Abbadessa became a major award recipient when he was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year \u2013 the third Colgate Raider to claim the rookie award in the\u00a0last\u00a0four seasons.<\/p>\n

Three of those four to win the first-year award are\u00a0among\u00a0this season\u2019s six Colgate honorees. In addition to Abbadessa, Burke was\u00a0last\u00a0year\u2019s rookie winner and Walsh claimed the trophy in 2012. Abbadessa becomes the sixth Raider to take home Patriot League rookie honors.<\/p>\n

Colgate\u2019s\u00a0senior\u00a0team\u00a0captains were solid choices for a place on the first\u00a0team.<\/p>\n

Clarkson leads the Raiders in scoring with 35 points, on 12 goals and a\u00a0team-high 23 assists. He has seven\u00a0multi-assist games, including three games of three assists or more. Clarkson also has two\u00a0multi-goal games, including a\u00a0hat trick\u00a0against\u00a0Boston\u00a0University.<\/p>\n

He is the first Colgate midfielder to repeat as first\u00a0team\u00a0all-conference\u00a0since\u00a0Matt Lalli in 2007-08.<\/p>\n

Fourth Time\u2019s a Charm<\/p>\n

Walsh made the Patriot League\u2019s first\u00a0team\u00a0after three turns as a second-team\u00a0recipient.<\/p>\n

Colgate\u2019s goal-scoring leader has 22 for the year, which is the lowest season\u00a0total\u00a0of his career. But 19 of those goals came against Colgate\u2019s Patriot League schedule, helping the Raiders to their first regular season title\u00a0since\u00a02012.<\/p>\n

Yeager was Colgate\u2019s lone choice for\u00a0preseason\u00a0All-Patriot League honors, and he carried that\u00a0over\u00a0to his first\u00a0postseason\u00a0award. The\u00a0senior\u00a0anchored a Raiders\u00a0defense\u00a0that is allowing\u00a09.1\u00a0goals per game and tossed a first-half\u00a0shutout\u00a0Friday at\u00a0Army\u00a0in an\u00a08-5 win. Yeager has 18 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers for personal season-highs in both categories.<\/p>\n

Williams scored a goal in the opener at Bryant and hasn\u2019t quit \u2013 he\u2019s the only Raider with at least one goal scored in every game this season. The\u00a0junior\u00a0is second on the\u00a0team\u00a0with 21 goals, including 15 in Patriot League play (also second). Williams scored his second\u00a0hat trick\u00a0of the season Friday at\u00a0Army\u00a0on just four\u00a0shot\u00a0attempts.<\/p>\n

Burke missed one complete game this season and most of\u00a0another\u00a0with an injury, but he has bounced back to stand second in the Patriot League in goals-against\u00a0average\u00a0at\u00a08.35. The sophomore was the backbone of a Colgate\u00a0defense\u00a0that held\u00a0Army\u00a0scoreless in the first\u00a0half\u00a0Friday\u00a0en route\u00a0to the victory that clinched a share of the conference title.<\/p>\n

Burke is\u00a07-3 in goal this season and 16-10 for his young career. He was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week three\u00a0times,\u00a0national\u00a0player of the week by the USILA and\u00a0Baltimore\u00a0Sun\u00a0on Feb.\u00a07, and ECAC Division I Metro\/Upstate\u00a0Player of the Week\u00a0on March\u00a028.<\/p>\n

Abbadessa also was a three-time weekly award-winner from the Patriot League and\u00a0one-time\u00a0recipient by the ECAC. The first-year attackman is third on the\u00a0team\u00a0in both goals with 20 and points with 31. Abbadessa scored goals in his first 11 collegiate games, including four in a crucial\u00a0one-goal win at Holy Cross.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also tied with Williams for the\u00a0team\u00a0lead in\u00a0man-up\u00a0goals with six.<\/p>\n

First Offensive Weekly Award for Walsh; Burke Claims Third Goalkeeper Nod<\/p>\n

Walsh and Burke picked up Corvias Patriot League Player of the Week Honors.<\/p>\n

Walsh was named Offensive Player of the Week after he matched season highs with four goals and six points in Colgate\u2019s\u00a08-5 win at\u00a0Army. The attackman scored two goals in\u00a0each\u00a0half, and three of his goals were unassisted. Walsh scored his four goals on just five\u00a0shot\u00a0attempts.<\/p>\n

This is Walsh\u2019s first career offensive weekly award and the first for the Raiders\u00a0since\u00a0Peter Baum in 2013. Walsh three\u00a0times\u00a0earned rookie of the week in his debut season of 2012.<\/p>\n

Burke picked up his third Goalkeeper of the Week selection this season after a nine-save outing Friday at\u00a0Army. The sophomore improved to\u00a07-3 in goal, making five of his saves during a first-half\u00a0performance that saw the Raiders head to the locker room leading\u00a04-0.<\/p>\n

He lowered his goals-against\u00a0average\u00a0to\u00a08.35 and\u00a0raised\u00a0his save percentage to\u00a0.525.<\/p>\n

Fiore nabs NEAC Player of the Week honors<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"FioreC15\"<\/a>The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week selections in men\u2019s lacrosse, naming Morrisville State College junior goalkeeper Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) the Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 19.<\/p>\n

This is the third time alone this season Fiore has been acknowledged for his efforts on the field by the conference office, earning Defensive Player of the Week accolades on March 3 and April 7.<\/p>\n

Fiore had a monster week for the Mustangs in net, leading Morrisville State to a pair of conference victories after recording a 4.00 goals against average, 30 total saves and 78.9 save percentage between the pipes across two crucial conference games.<\/p>\n

He allowed just four goals in each game while coming up with double-digit saves in both contests, starting with 14 saves in a 10-4 victory over Cazenovia midweek, before turning away 16 in Saturday\u2019s 6-4 win over rival and conference defending champion Keuka College in a rematch of last year\u2019s title game.<\/p>\n

Fiore leads the conference in both goals against average (6.15) and save percentage (66.8), while also being third in saves (127) on the season to date for the Mustangs, who remain undefeated in NEAC play at 5-0.<\/p>\n

Evans, Young named Mustang Co-Athletes of the Week<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Morrisville, NY – April 2015) The Morrisville State College athletic department has announced its Mustang Athletes of the Week, naming men\u2019s lacrosse midfielder Eliud Evans (Culver City, Calif.) and men\u2019s golf Darren Young (Woodstock, Ontario) the co-athletes of the week for the week ending April 19.<\/p>\n

\"EvansE15\"<\/a>Evans played a key role in a 2-0 week for the Mustang men\u2019s lacrosse team as they moved into first place in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) standings. On the week he posted two goals, collected seven ground balls and caused one turnover.<\/p>\n

His two tallies came in the narrow 6-4 win over NEAC defending champion Keuka College, one of which came on a man-up opportunity and proved to be the eventual game winner.<\/p>\n

The graduate of Culver City High is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State.<\/p>\n

\"YOUNG-MOR-MGO-1314\"<\/a>Young, lead golfer for Morrisville State, had a terrific outing for the Mustangs on the week. He started off with\u00a0individual medalist honors from the Rutgers-Camden match out of 69 total competitors\u00a0on Monday, shooting +5 on the 70 par – 6,250 yard course, capturing his first collegiate victory by just a stroke.<\/p>\n

He followed that performance with a sixth place overall finish at the NEAC Championships over the weekend, leading Morrisville State to a fifth overall team finish. Young, with his performance, earned second team all-conference accolades and is the only Mustang to take home such honors in each season of competition.<\/p>\n

The two-sport student-athlete in ice hockey and golf is a graduate of St. Mary\u2019s Catholic High and is majoring in business administration at Morrisville State. He is the son of Eustacia and Dave Young of Woodstock, Ontario.<\/p>\n
