(Oneida, NY\u00a0\u2013 May 2015) The Greater Oneida Chamber of Commerce has announced that The Salvation Army \u2013 Oneida Service Unit\u00a0has been awarded May Member of the Month.<\/p>\n

The Service Unit is comprised of volunteers from the Oneida area that are dedicated to providing direct service to people in need during emergencies.<\/p>\n

Members of the Oneida Committee include; Jennie Chapin, RealtyUSA (Oneida office), Treasurer; Beatrice Fratini, RealtyUSA (Oneida office), Co-Treasurer; Chief David Meeker, Oneida City Police, voucher writer; Under-Sheriff John Ball, Madison County Sheriff\u2019s Office, voucher writer; Joanne Smith, Liberty Resources, voucher writer; Melissa King, Karing Kitchen, Long Point Camp Coordinator; Ann Vail, Service Unit Director, The Salvation Army Empire State Division; Sam Reeder, Regional Services Coordinator, The Salvation Army Empire State Division. There are also countless other members that step forward to help with the Red Kettle Campaign that makes this program possible.<\/p>\n

A service unit is an all-volunteer force representing The Salvation Army where a Corps is not present. The funds raised within the Service Unit remain in that area to be a direct conduit for grass-roots assistance. This program also provides Emergency Disaster Services if a catastrophe strikes, such as the flooding in this area a few years ago.<\/p>\n

Currently The Salvation Army is looking for children that would like to attend its free camp, Long Point in Penn Yan. \u00a0Transportation has been arranged for ages 6-12 for the week of\u00a0Aug. 6 through 11.<\/p>\n
