<\/a>(New Hartford, NY \u2013 June 2015)\u00a0Two local Girl Scouts were recently recognized for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award during a Young Women of Distinction ceremony at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva\u00a0on Saturday.<\/p>\nThe Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement girls can earn in Girl Scouting. This award challenges girls to change the world \u2013 or at least their corner of it \u2013 and be eligible for college scholarships. In order to earn the award girls participate in activities of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, and spend 80 hours working on a community service project that has a sustainable impact on their communities. The following girls are part of the Gold Award Class of 2015, compromised of 36 girls in the 26-county jurisdiction served by the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways. Local girls recognized for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award were:<\/p>\n
Krystyna Hurd\u00a0of Camden and\u00a0Danielle LaGrange\u00a0of Little Falls.<\/p>\n
Danielle\u00a0is a graduate of Dolgeville Central School. Danielle saw a need in her community due to the aging population of its members so she decided to instill a \u201cVials for Life\u201d campaign. The vials were placed in welcome baskets as well as through door to door outreach. For her Gold Award take action project she created a space for the children at her church to learn about the Bible and God\u2019s teachings.
