\"Children<\/a>Shown are participants at past Madison County Historical Society\u2019s Charles E. Page Summer History Camp. This year\u2019s camp is July 13 to 15.<\/em><\/p>\n

(Oneida, NY \u2013 June 2015) The Madison County Historical Society\u2019s Charles E. Page Summer History Camp will be held on July 13 to 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will focus on farm life of the mid-nineteenth century and the changing farming practices of today. The lessons and series of workshops geared for children aged between 9 to 12 years cover farming, cross-stitch, basket weaving and baking.<\/p>\n

The enrollment fee for the camp is $35 for MCHS members and $45 for nonmembers. No refund will be given to those who withdraw after the first day of camp. The deadline to enroll, as space is limited to 12 children, is July 6.\u00a0 Children must bring their own lunch each day. Snacks will be provided.<\/p>\n

The historical society is offering a scholarship to the day camp valued at the enrollment fee of $45. It will be granted to a child that has an interest in learning about history. To qualify for the scholarship the child must be a Madison County resident between the ages of 9 to 12 years. The child must also submit a 100 word or fewer essay about where their food comes from and the types of food their family eats daily. \u00a0Essays will be judged on creativity, neatness, and grammar.\u00a0 Typed or handwritten essays are acceptable. The deadline for scholarship consideration is July 1and must be sent to the Madison County Historical Society, Attn: Charles E. Page Scholarship Award, 435 Main Street, Oneida, NY 13421. Please include your name, address, age, and phone number along with your essay.\u00a0 The award recipient will be notified by telephone on July 1.<\/p>\n

The society\u2019s summer history camp is named in memory of Charles E. Page.\u00a0 Page, a native of Madison County, operated a farm for 20 years until he was appointed Farm Employment Representative in New York State Department of Labor.\u00a0 His passion for learning and teaching history is best recounted by his children who fondly remember their father instilling in them the importance of teaching respect for every aspect of our heritage.<\/p>\n
