I\u2019ll keep up the fight to focus on learning, not testing as well as policies that give our children the best education to provide them with a bright future,\u201d Magee said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>NOTE: The following is a statement from Senator Joseph Griffo, R-Rome, in response to the recent news that the New York State Education Department would not be renewing its contract with Pearson Education to design the state\u2019s controversial standardized Math and English tests for grades 3 through 8. A new five-year contract with Questar Assessment would have to be approved by the State Comptroller and State Attorney General.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_35792\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35792\" style=\"width: 226px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Griffo-alone.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-35792\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Griffo-alone.jpg\" alt=\"Joseph Griffo\" width=\"226\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Griffo-alone.jpg 226w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Griffo-alone-150x148.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-35792\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joseph Griffo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased to hear that the New York State Education Department will not be renewing its multimillion-dollar contract with Pearson Education, a company with a lackluster record of missteps regarding its standardized tests that has fueled much aggravation among educators, students and parents throughout our state,\u201d Griffo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier, we had urged that steps be taken to address this flawed testing.
