{"id":63104,"date":"2015-07-29T20:11:36","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T00:11:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=63104"},"modified":"2015-07-29T20:11:36","modified_gmt":"2015-07-30T00:11:36","slug":"county-clerk-state-dmv-sending-misleading-renewal-notices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=63104","title":{"rendered":"County Clerk: State DMV Sending Misleading Renewal Notices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/County-Seal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-48019\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/County-Seal.jpg\" alt=\"County Seal\" width=\"226\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/County-Seal.jpg 226w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/County-Seal-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 226px) 100vw, 226px\" \/><\/a>(Wampsville, NY \u2013 July 29, 2015) Despite State notices, you can process renewals, obtain driver abstracts, order a duplicate license or registration, along with the hundreds of other transactions that you have always been able to do in the Madison County Office in person or by mail.<\/p>\n<p>New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is now sending registration renewal notices to some customers stating \u201cYOU MAY ONLY RENEW BY MAIL OR ONLINE\u2026\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Customers receiving these notices believe they will be unable to renew their registrations in person.\u00a0 According to Denise Roe, Madison County Clerk, \u201cthat is false and misleading.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDMV offices like Wampsville are agency offices, governed by the State but paid for by the county.\u00a0 We are able to provide this service through a percentage retained on fees collected for each transaction handled in the DMV office.\u00a0\u00a0 The county receives virtually no money for transactions completed on line or mailed to the state office,\u201d explained Roe.\u00a0 \u201cBy leading people to believe they cannot use their local DMV office for renewals, the state is able to keep all of the money.\u00a0 However, when transactions are done locally (mailed to Wampsville DMV or in person) it helps keep taxes down and the local motor vehicle office open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although renewing online may seem convenient, there are actually drawbacks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe receive calls on a daily basis from customers who renewed online but did not receive their products in the mail and the expiration date is passed,\u201d Roe said.\u00a0 This requires a trip to the local office anyway, and the issuance of a duplicate document, but the county receives no revenue for transactions such as this.<\/p>\n<p>By cutting the income stream to operate the local office, the county will either have to use tax dollars to subsidize the operation or cut services.\u00a0 There are many transactions that must be handled in person.\u00a0 Roe stated, \u201cThe best thing we can do is educate people to use their local DMV office, keep their money here and the doors open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mail:\u00a0 Madison County DMV, PO Box 667, Wampsville, NY\u00a0 13163.\u00a0 Usually transactions are processed and return mailed on the same day.<\/p>\n<p>In person:\u00a0 138 North Court Street, County Office Building #4, Wampsville.\u00a0 Hours are 8:30-4:30 Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe county DMV understands how valuable your time is and strives to make your visit as efficient as possible.\u00a0 Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the quietest days,\u201d Roe said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(Wampsville, NY \u2013 July 29, 2015) Despite State notices, you can process renewals, obtain driver abstracts, order a duplicate license or registration, along with the hundreds of other transactions that you have always been able to do in the Madison County Office in person or by mail.
