The grants, which Magee helped secure in the 2014-15 state budget, will help libraries in Madison, Oneida and Otsego counties make infrastructure upgrades ranging from lighting and electrical improvements to library expansion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLibraries are vital to our communities. They are free and accessible, provide a family-friendly environment and are a great educational and recreational resource,\u201d Magee said. \u201cMany libraries also provide job-seeking services such as resume support and Internet access for those looking for employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Assemblyman Magee announced that the Earlville Free Library in Madison County will receive $10,950 for a roof renovation project, and the New Woodstock Free Library, also in Madison County, will receive $21,498 to purchase property and a building for expansion.<\/p>\n<p>The Oneida Public Library will receive $86,899 for lighting and electrical work for its new library.<\/p>\n<p>The Village Library of Cooperstown in Otsego County will receive $26,933 toward its renovation project. The library has pledged $10,000 as a potential matching grant for construction upgrades, with $1,500 budgeted for computer improvements.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 182 construction grants have been awarded to public libraries across the state, which was made possible through a $14 million capital fund appropriation included in the 2014-15 state budget for the construction and renovation of public libraries and public library systems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese funds will help Central New York libraries make much-needed improvements so that they can better serve our communities.
