{"id":63594,"date":"2015-09-15T08:00:35","date_gmt":"2015-09-15T12:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=63594"},"modified":"2015-09-14T19:43:09","modified_gmt":"2015-09-14T23:43:09","slug":"county-hosting-governors-citizens-preparedness-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=63594","title":{"rendered":"County Hosting Governor\u2019s Citizen\u2019s Preparedness Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/County-Seal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-47297\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/County-Seal.jpg\" alt=\"County Seal\" width=\"226\" height=\"226\" \/><\/a>(Wampsville, NY \u2013 Sept. 2015) September is National Preparedness Month, a good time for all Madison County residents to take advantage of the resources that are available to help prepare for the next disaster or emergency.\u00a0 Madison County residents need to be prepared to be self-reliant during an emergency for three days without utilities and electricity, water service, fuel, access to a supermarket or local services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNational Preparedness Month is an ideal time for all residents to revisit their emergency preparedness efforts,\u201d says Ted Halpin, Madison County\u2019s Emergency Manager.\u00a0\u00a0Preparing starts with these four steps:<\/p>\n<p>Be informed about emergencies that could happen in your community, and identify sources of information in your community that will be helpful before, during and after an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>Make a plan for what to do in an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>Build an emergency supply kit.<\/p>\n<p>Get involved.<\/p>\n<p>To assist with these efforts, Madison County has these planning resources on the County Emergency Management web page and Twitter feed:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.madisoncounty.ny.gov\/emergency-preparedness\/home\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.madisoncounty.ny.gov\/emergency-preparedness\/home<\/a>\u00a0 and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MadisonCoNY_EM\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter:\u00a0MadisonCoNY_EM<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other great preparedness websites include:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.redcross.org\/prepare\/disaster\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.redcross.org\/prepare\/disaster<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ready.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.ready.gov\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This information should be shared with family, friends and community organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Locally, Madison County is hosting a\u00a0Governor\u2019s Citizen\u2019s Preparedness Program\u00a0on Sept. 28 from\u00a06 to 8 p.m.\u00a0at the New Beginnings Church, 227 Genesee St. in Wampsville. This will be an opportunity to learn about emergency preparedness and about local emergency management programs.\u00a0 In addition, each household attending will receive a\u00a0free backpack\u00a0loaded with emergency supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Residents can always register online to receive emergency alerts via\u00a0NYAlert\u00a0by going to the County\u2019s alert webpage:<a href=\"https:\/\/users.nyalert.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0https:\/\/users.nyalert.gov\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Preparedness is a shared responsibility; it takes a whole community.
