Students completed 28.5 total service hours in July and August through visits to the Cazenovia Public Library, the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, Caz Cares, Lorenzo State Historic Site and the Friendship Inn.<\/p>\n<p>Students began working with the program in the fall of 2014 meeting weekly to improve their leadership and personal skills. The program continued over summer with interested students to transition into the program\u2019s second year focus of service learning.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was so easy to find service opportunities for youth in the Cazenovia community,\u201d said Tina Louis, the Youth Bureau\u2019s Youth Development Specialist. \u201cThere is a need for volunteers in many organizations that can be met by energetic youth, from helping at the library\u2019s book sale to assisting with food distributions and trail maintenance.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_63598\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-63598\" style=\"width: 406px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Lorenzo-8-7-15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63598\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Lorenzo-8-7-15.jpg\" alt=\"Front: Youth Bureau Service Learning and Leadership member Brennah Caffrey, Youth Development Specialist Tina Louis and member Taylor Scott. This works nicely into the Service Learning and Leadership program\u2019s goals. One student, Brennah Caffrey, is determined to get the most volunteer hours in her class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m trying to get as many hours as I can because I want to earn a scholarship for college,\u201d Caffrey said.<\/p>\n<p>Students learned how each organization contributed to the well-being of the community and how they can return to volunteer in the future.
