\nTo the Editor:<\/p>\n

(Madison County, NY – Oct. 2015) George Puzey, Patrick O\u2019Sullivan. Remember those names.<\/p>\n

Mr. Puzey recently wrote a letter to the Oneida Daily Dispatch supporting Mr. O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s\u00a0candidacy for County Court Judge. \u00a0Before he makes unfair, inaccurate attacks against either\u00a0Marian Cerio or Kathleen Rapasadi, he should ask some questions of the candidate whom he\u00a0idealizes.<\/p>\n

Over 65 percent of the cases that wind up in Madison County Court are Family Court cases. What is the extent of Mr. O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s Family Court experience?<\/p>\n

Mr. O\u2019Sullivan is a partner in the firm of Goris and O\u2019Sullivan. \u00a0The firm\u2019s website lists nineteen\u00a0areas of expertise including dog bites and slip and fall cases. \u00a0Nowhere does the website indicate any experience or interest in family law.<\/p>\n

Under the heading, \u201cRepresentative Clients,\u201d O\u2019Sullivan lists only large insurance companies.
\nConsequently, one may infer that Mr. O\u2019Sullivan has no practical experience in the
\noverwhelming number of cases that come before a Madison County Court Judge.<\/p>\n

Someone who teaches and practices the law knows what the term \u201cconcurrent jurisdiction\u201d
\nmeans. \u00a0In his very first statement as a candidate, Patrick O\u2019Sullivan claimed that as a town and
\nvillage justice, he had concurrent jurisdiction with Family Court, which means he had the same
\nauthority and jurisdiction as a Family Court Judge.<\/p>\n

This is simply not true. \u00a0A town and village justice may issue an order of protection, or may hold
\nan individual in contempt for violating that order. \u00a0A town and village justice does not decide
\nissues of child custody, visitation, child neglect or abuse, adoptions or all the other issues brought\u00a0before a Family Court Judge.<\/p>\n

Mr. Puzey wrote, \u201cGood judges\u2026weigh the facts and look for the truth.\u201d Mr. O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s
\nclaim relative to his concurrent jurisdiction is simply not the truth.<\/p>\n
