(Canastota, NY \u2013 Nov. 2015) We know that December is a busy time for families.\u00a0 It\u2019s also a great time for family gatherings.\u00a0 Interested in doing a family read aloud for the holidays?\u00a0 Stop in and see us and we can recommend some wonderful books depending on the ages of those \u201clistening\u201d.\u00a0 We also have a nice collection of holiday DVD classics and holiday romance novels!\u00a0 If you are still looking for things to do, here is a sampling of what\u2019s happening at the library in December.<\/p>\n

Loreen Collins is our Artist of the Month in December.\u00a0 Loreen describes herself as a \u201clate blooming artist\u201d who uses many mediums including photography, sculpture, printmaking, drawing and painting.\u00a0 She studied at Mohawk Valley Community College in their Fine Arts Department.\u00a0 Loreen\u2019s display is comprised of her paintings in oil and acrylic.<\/p>\n

Loreen\u2019s work has appeared in juried student shows at both SUNYIT and MVCC.\u00a0 As well, in November, some of her work appeared in the Kirkland Public Library in Clinton with the Community Arts Guild.\u00a0 An Artist\u2019s Reception for Loreen Collins will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7pm at the library in our Lawson Community Room.<\/p>\n

Dr. Seuss\u2019 book, \u201cThe Grinch Who Stole Christmas\u201d is a classic that makes every Christmas holiday complete.\u00a0 Join us at the library on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7pm with our guest Vince Doty.\u00a0 Doty will bring the story to life for children of all ages.\u00a0 The program will include a Grinch snack and a craft project!\u00a0 Call the library at 697-7030 to reserve your space!<\/p>\n

Can you hear the bell?\u00a0 Hop aboard \u201cThe Polar Express\u201d at the Canastota Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 7pm.\u00a0 Vince Doty will be your conductor!\u00a0 Let the story transport you to the North Pole where children can hear the story, make a craft and enjoy a holiday snack!\u00a0 Please reserve your place by calling the library so we know how many to expect for this special event!<\/p>\n

Looking for a nice Christmas book for the kids?\u00a0 Erin Conley Nelson, who is originally from Canastota, has written a second book in her Bibletoon Series.\u00a0 Erin will be at the library all day on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. selling this book, titled The Miracle at Bethlehem.\u00a0 She will even autograph your copy.\u00a0 So stop by the library and meet this wonderful author!<\/p>\n

The library will be closing at 4pm on Thursday, Dec. 24.\u00a0 We will also be closed on Friday, Dec. 25.\u00a0 The following week, we will close at 4pm on Thursday, Dec. 31 and we will be closed for New Year\u2019s Day on Jan. 1. Watch the mail for our Newsletter during the first week of January.<\/p>\n

The staff of the library wishes all of our patrons and neighbors a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.<\/p>\n
