With spring on the way and warm weather on the horizon, now\u00a0is the perfect time to start learning about this fun outdoor hobby.<\/p>\n<p>Many people are reluctant to garden for a variety of reasons, including lack of knowledge and time. Friends of\u00a0Rogers has a solution for those looking to put their green thumb to the test.<\/p>\n<p>On March 2, Rogers Center in Sherburne will host a learning lecture on gardening, led by instructors from the\u00a0Colgate Community Garden. Presenters will share information on plant basics, seed selection, plant care, and\u00a0many other topics participants may need assistance with. If you\u2019re trying to spruce up your garden, or even start\u00a0one for the first time, this interactive presentation is a must.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGardening is a great way to get outside and get some fresh air, as well as a potential chance to spend quality\u00a0time with friends and family,\u201d said environmental educator Sarah Freedman. \u201cIt helps you build relationships,\u00a0stay active, and even eat healthier!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the sustainability mission at Colgate University, the Community Garden grows fresh herbs and\u00a0vegetables used by both the university and the Hamilton Food Cupboard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGardening 101\u201d will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Visitor Center on state Route 80 in Sherburne; those\u00a0needing to may use the adjacent parking lot, and the center is handicap accessible. A $3 donation is suggested\u00a0to support future programs at Rogers Center.<\/p>\n<p>Seasonal hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.\u00a0Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Volunteers prepare community garden plots at Rogers Environmental Education Center.
