\"GLAS<\/a>Representatives of the Canastota Area Association of Churches have distributed\u00a0the first of four $500 grants to the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Greater\u00a0Lenox Ambulance Service in recent days. On Feb. 29, Pastor Abigail\u00a0Browka of the Clockville United Methodist Church presented a check to 17\u00a0officers and volunteers at the monthly meeting of the Lincoln VFD.GLAS<\/p>\n

GLAS\u00a0President Dario Damore accepted their check on March 9 from CAAC reps\u00a0Pastor Tom Burgess of Hope Christian Fellowship and CAAC Secretary Cindy\u00a0Wright-Kolceski of St Agatha\u2019s Roman Catholic Church, with 7 GLAS volunteers\u00a0on hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of the churches in Canastota believe strongly in the value of these men and\u00a0women and the service they give,” said Pastor Tom Burgess. “These grants are a small but hopefully helpful\u00a0expression of our support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Identical \u201cCanastota Volunteer\u00a0First Responders Awards\u201d will be presented to the Canastota VFD and Wampsville VFD in coming days, and each company is free to apply them to\u00a0whatever project they deem most useful.<\/p>\n

The money for this year\u2019s grant came from a special reserve fund left over from\u00a0past years\u2019 fund-raising, and earmarked exclusively for volunteer recognition. The\u00a0CAAC plans a letter campaign soon to raise funds to continue the awards\u00a0beyond the reserve\u2019s expected exhaustion in 2018. If public response is strong,\u00a0and a new chairman is identified, the CAAC Board acknowledges the possibility\u00a0that a dinner or similar recognition could return.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
