Does the booming craft beer industry in New York have you seriously thinking about growing your own hops? In the 1880\u2019s New York led the nation in hops production, but then the mildew disease and prohibition some years later reduced our hops production to almost nothing.<\/p>\n

Now, with recent legislation which allows craft brewers to sell beer by the glass, the number of hops growers is rapidly increasing, especially here in Central New York. Join other potential hops growers March 22<\/span> at the Tally Ho restaurant in Richfield Springs as Cornell Cooperative Extension Hops Specialist Steve Miller introduces you to hops production in our part of New York.<\/p>\n

The workshop will begin at 9 a.m.<\/span> and run until approximately noon<\/span> with time after lunch for questions and discussion. There will be a $15 charge for the workshop with lunch provided. Steve will be speaking about site selection, one of the most important considerations of this long-term investment.<\/p>\n

In addition, he will cover costs of production, varieties of hops, pests and the equipment used in harvesting and processing.<\/p>\n
